Maybe going back to basics is the solution,no fixings, nuts or bolts....
How about a spring loaded clamp on the shaft ?

Spring loaded sounds good to me but I had to make do with what I could presently dig out to form a stand.

I had been looking at the Makro Racer stand and was wondering if the removal of the thin bolt and prising open slightly the lugs would enable it to function as a clip-on stand for the Q40. Not sure of the measurements though!

I would imagine that Quest and Detectorbits should be able to point us in the right direction for a suitable compromise. ::g

i use this method to great effect, couple of quid from fleabay and youre sorted. dont over think it, its just not worth it. IF you buy a clamp and its not a snug fit in the shaft, just cut off the "grippy" end pieces with a hacksaw and it will close up more. its a square shaft and most of the clamps come with teethy type grips so wont really move unless you chuck it across the field.

id love someone to design and produce a stand for the quest, but its just gonna be more money,

I'm not sure if the pair of clamps above are a suitable size or not,but they are £4 or £5 for the pair from screwfix, bargain if they fit OK,might just have a punt on them & see

What would be the span of those lever tips? have just sent for a couple of 6" clamps from Amazon but am wondering how stable they will b; I can also make good use of them for DIY jobs.

I should be out with the Q40 come Saturday, weather permitting. Will get to see how robust my lashup bipod is in use. ::g

Good thread this, taking Norman Invaders idea I purchased two clamps for a quid, cut off the end so it didn't get in the way and just clamped it in place before the arm support. Bingo problem solved for pennies and took 30 seconds to do. Great idea N I ::g

I am sure the "clamp" stand will be fine, anything is better than what we have but this seems like a great solution. Off to the pound shop tomorrow to grab a couple ::g

The more I look at it, the more I like it! So easy to fit and keep clean!

With a bit of spit n' polish; perhaps you could sell them to Quest and Detectorbits. £7 each???? ;)

I'll let Norman Invader make his fortune from the idea, he got there first :D
It does work though, could be a bit wider and longer but hey, it's way better than the stupid little pad on the machine ::g

A couple of pieces of dowel glued into the grips would widen the span and get the tector to sit a little higher. A spot of black paint on the dowels would blend them i nicely with the general colour scheme. ::g

Shoot!!!!

I have just been informed that the Nokta Impact stand fits but would be interested to see one fitted. Joan Allen is selling the Nokta Impact stands for £14.50 but I would be highly hesitant to splash out the cash until I have seen how reliable some of our mods are.

If the Nokta Impact does actually fit and is suitable, I will be highly disappointed that neither Quest or Detectorbits informed us of such! ;;z

with all due respect mate, neither quest or detectorbits are going to tell you that another manufacturers parts are going to fit. not in their interest. swapping bits and pieces from one make to another in any hobby is just the way it goes. hell, my suzuki vitara has diahatsu wheels on it, but suzuki would never tell me they fit.

ive looked at the nokta stand as a possability, but its just more money and you have to have them folded out permantly or do it every time you want to put the machine down, might get a bit of a ball ache, i have used the plastic clamp thing for a few months and its fine, nothings ever going to be 100% but its all about the happy medium. and iit cost less than a stupid cup of costa coffee. happy days.

Some very accurate and valid point sport, but I would have loved to have heard from Quest with the information that they have a suitable stand on their production line for us but by the time that they do, most of us will have found an alternative stand.

Slowly loving this machine that has so much potential to offer and isn't just "the emperor's new clothes" all over again! My Q40 hoovered up just over twenty coins from an area of paddock that I had previously covered with my Safari and thought that there wouldn't be much left over for the Q40 to zero in on.
