Sniper coil for a Garrett 300? On its way!arrived!

Post by Lowland » Wed Feb 14, 2018 6:34 pm

Hi
Just wondering has anybody fitted a sniper type coil to a 300?
I’ve got old old ash paths that are begging for it..
The GMP is a real handful on them no matter what I do.
So rather and splash for a tiny coil for it
I Think I’m going to resurrect the 300 after running it over, the coils toast I reckon
But the control box just got snapped off at the mounting screws.
Thanks for any knowledge shared ::g

i use a nel snake on a garrett ace 400i. not the 300 i appreciate, but not a million miles away really and it would work on the 300 anyhow.
im more than happy with it and carry it in my bag all the time, just in case i come across tight spots bewtixt trees or whatever.
great separation and good depth

I use a NEL snake coil or basically it is a Sniper coil, albeit the sniper size is usually about the 4-5'' size, but i use the Snake on both my T2 and also Trident11,and it is a deadly coil and still offers reasonable depth as well.

Also use a small 5'' coil and even a 4'' coil as well for the type of use that you have in mind, the target separation in trashy sites is outstanding, another situation that most folks use a sniper coil is jsut after harvest time as a stubble buster for getting in between the stubble rows.

So yes a sniper coil on a 300 would be a very good option.

i decided to get the snake as one of my permissions is more or less a grass covered recycling bin. cans, ring pulls and other crap with decent targets here and there. going slow(ish) i have no problems getting between all the cans and hitting the decent stuff. around the edge of a large fishing pond its managed to pull a ton of coins out from between numerous lead weights and bottle tops.
it seems particularly good at hitting very small targets and i would say that it can punch down to around 8 inches or so.
its only 3.5 inch wide by 6.5 long so coverage is a proper nightmare, but for getting into stupidly restricted places or rubbish infested sites, i'd say it takes some beating.

good choice.
i find that when pinpointing with it, the target 99% of the time is right under the yellow sticker at the back of the coil. the "booster dd snake" sticker.

Hi owdgit
Coil arrived yesterday..I missed the delivery on Friday,I had
Steam coming out of my ears.
So -big handful of ferrous and coke onto the veg patch
Slick William silver love token in amongst it and some George coppers
And Bingo!
Nice and slow to give the machine it’s best chance and I can hear most of the good uns.
Funny enough adjusting to using a Garrett again after having a GMP for 6 months is
The hardest bit I think.
So hopefully this weekend is d-day on the ash paths.
They could be a different animal...
Now I’ve got the coil I can see how handy it’s going to be for
All sorts of tricky spots.
And great to have it set up on its own machine-no messing changing coils!
Thank you for asking ::g
P.s-big thanks to Regtons who phoned about a book I’d ordered same time that was out of stock
Great service-there was even an old copy of treasure hunting mag in with the order
Which had a review of the Garrett 300 :D

The thing is -they are out there!
These ash paths have been there since the early Georgian house
And were probably walkways before that...I’m hoping for a silver or two
At the weekend

Thought to chip in on the 9" coil but no experience of it on an ace, so left it to others. 9" on G2 does almost everything larger coils do, except outright depth and coverage... but not far off. So unless a large open space or really trying to clean up, 9" stays on my machine... is better at separation, much easier to handle, makes the detector pick up and go - just more fun.

Hey twit
It feels insanely small
After the nel satellite dish on the GMP
But I have a lot of rough pasture..happy days
And come stubble time-this maybe the weapon of choice
Particularly behind a village site that’s infested
But definately has the goods in it
