garrett 300i and salt water beach set up

Post by teignsaxon » Sun Mar 18, 2018 3:38 pm

Hi everybody, any ideas for settings on the garrett 300i on a salt water beach ? I know non PI detectors are not the best on the beach but it would be a help to see what other members with this machine think the best settings, thanks and happy hunting spikey

Using the 400i, which is the same apart from slightly larger coil.
Dry sand, custom mode, iron audio off, 2 bars off max sensitivity, discrim out below 60.
Wet sand, turned sensitivity down to 3 bars off max helps , however if you stand the detector down on wet will keep falsing. Will need to do more adjustments to see what is best for wet unless someone else already has settings fine tuned.

Being a 400i user myself I would tend to agree with Dave The Slave. The wetter the sand, the lower the sensitivity.

Hi teignsaxon
Use the 300i on both wet and dry sand down at Exmouth and tend to use zero descrimination with 2 notches off the iron with sensitivity down by 2 as well and this identifies a wide range of finds and you just then dig the tones that you know and recognise. I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that on very wet sand the 300i does have its limitations, ie: close to the waters edge and even with the sensitivity turned down it tends to false a lot. Mid way down the beach which has drained is better, and have found coins down to 6" with no problem. I'v found the preset settings are fine but I like to hear all thats down there and not miss a potential target. It may be different for other 300i users and like you if someone has found the ideal setting I'd love to know it - please tell us if you have it, but I do think it's trial and error and just how the beach behaves on the day you are there.
Good luck with the hunting - and don't give up on the 300i - it's found lots for me,
regards
Len R.

Thanks for all that info I detect on Teignmouth beach but not a great deal on there. I will try your settings next time I go out, I also use a makro racer so this 300i is a back up machine. thanks again and happy hunting. spikey
