Target,no target.

Post by Muddyknee » Fri Dec 07, 2018 6:45 pm

Couple of times today got a good signal,82-84,sensitivity one notch down and disc two notches down.
Sweep one way and the tone is good, sweep other way to get a fix and nothing.
No sound or VDI readout.
Sweep original direction and it's back.
What gives?

Were you discriminating iron out?
If so you might have been getting the high tone good signal part of a pointed nail or large piece of iron
This is why folk like hardly any discrim as you can at least then hear the iron grunt which ties in with the high tone good part of the signal
Might be being operative words here

Just the first two bars.
Gave targets secondary sweeps with iron audio, still good sound.

I am unfortunately not familiar with the settings on your machine so have no idea how much discrimination that actually is

So question is, did you dig the signal?

It does sound like large iron, but digging would tell you better

Well, good luck but in a garden with a description of the signal then my bet is on large iron or large pointy nail
Even more so if a house built in the last 40 years as they have all sorts of junk in the gardens
Plus ask the house owner if that area ever had bonfires on it, as you then know its iron of some description

I hope i am proved wrong and you dig up something fantastic

Quite a distance from house, and it's a semi wild area.
Not encountered any building or bonfire debris as yet, land was once part of a WW1 training and disembarkation camp.

Did you have Iron Audio on? Always advisable. Horseshoe shaped iron can give a positive high signal at the end of the sweep which can disappear at 90%, but normally erratic numbers rather than stable and if you have IA on you get a better idea. As BA says... if in doubt dig it to be sure.

I'd always dig that, it sounds like a deep coin on edge. ::g

I would tend to agree with the theory of a coin edge ways on or something else of interesting content if I'm honest. The Aces will always give a high number on the VDU and a sweet double ding on large "haloed" iron.
