On the beach with the 400i

Post by steve r » Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:45 am

Yesterday me and my son went to a pebble/stone beach in Essex to try out my Garrett 400i. I looked at every youtube video I could find for setting up the 400i for the beach and water. I ended up setting the machine on custom and discrimming everything except 70s,80s,and 90s and put the iron audio on. Still got the odd false signal, but not singing and chattering all the time. The settings seemed OK to me so I stayed with it on wet beach and in the water. On the dry beach I just added the 60s and that seemed OK also.
Finds, molten ally, bottle tops, ring pulls, and a square cut copper nail, and a copper rivet I think.

The lead plate came from a bit of waste ground by me, I think It's an identification tag of some sort.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for giving the settings on wet sand.
Had tried my usual inland/ dry sand set up of Custom, discrim below 60 and 2 off max sensitivity and then turning down sensitivity but that did not work. Never thought of adding another bar of discrim. You may lose a Sixpence which comes in at 62 but pound coins register at 84/5. Iron Audio was interesting, as I normally don`t use that due to earache.
Cheers and Good Luck, ::g
Dave.

Great write up.

I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to move this to the 400i section. This is not because you posted it in the wrong place, but because I think your settings might be useful to other 400i users now and in the future ::g It’s lovely when people share this type of info as it really does help others.
