Wet sand

Post by Bigadg » Wed Nov 22, 2017 11:47 am

Anyone had any joy with a garrett 400i on wet sand ?.
Tried mine last weekend and got lots of false signals, but I am new to the job so could be down to me

Hello Stu,

Never tried it myself, but I remember from other posts it could have something to do with the sensitivity level and perhaps even the discrimination. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you. ::g

Yes and no.

Not ideal but most false signals will be in the 50s

If you use only the 60, 70, 80 and 90s and ignore all below 59 it will work ish.

Hi Stu,
Not tried mine yet on the wet stuff. On the dry I use my inland settings of , Custom, iron audio Off, Discrim below 60 and 1 block off Max Sensitivity, this works the same as inland, although it`s dry sand.
Will have to try the wet next time I go, whenever that will be.
Sorry it`s not much help.
Good Luck ::g
Dave.

drop sens to 2 bars and i will ''work'' a bit better also if you disc below 50 you might miss rings and pull tabs.
also depends on the beach you are at and how saturated is the sand.

imo stay away from wet sand with garrett 300i and 400i.

Hopefully this gets approved. Confused.

My Garrett 400i works perfectly on the beach even up to the surf Line? Not sure what else I can say. I like it. ???

Testing the beach again. This what I found. If you get a good known two way signal in the wet sand, even if there is a little iron grunt, dig it. It’s good. Not once did it end up being iron. Only If it sounds like iron and the numbers correspond with iron was it actually Iron on the surf line.

Still waiting to get on an inland site to see how it differs.

Cheers

Tried a few different settings with my 400i with standard dd coil. Loads of false signals. Any advice??

Hi Phil, In order to obtain any meaningful advice, you will need to provide more details of all your settings and if possible some idea of the prevailing ground conditions in the troublesome areas of operation. The search-coil height when searching together with the 'swing speed may also be useful to know. Good Luck ::g - Regards ss47

Wet sand beach. Lots of false signals very noisy. Dug numerous holes with nothing there. I tried custom setting 60, 70, 80, 90 and 3 - 4 bars off sensitivity.

No questions are stupid, you have to ask to get answers simple :)

but geoff beepingmad is the one to watch videos on wet sand

heres a video where he explains his settings in more detail for wet sand

hello stu, i'm a regular on the beach. the 400i does prefer the dry sand but i manage on the wet, i notch out anything below 60 and half the sensitivity. i'm probably missing a lot, but i find enough to make it interesting.
i wish you luck

Hi Stu, I discrim everything except 70s,80s,and 90s and put the iron audio on. Still got the odd false signal, but not singing and chattering all the time. The settings seemed OK to me so I stayed with it on wet beach and in the water. On the dry beach I just added the 60s and that seemed OK also.
