400i

Post by englishkid19 »

Hi all.
I have a garrett euro ace that I can sell for 200 quid . Would be worth investing another 100 and getting a 400i.
Is it worth it...? Does it go deeper will it pick up small silvers better...
Thanks any advice welcome

i never used a euro ace but i do have a 400i and more often than not use it fitted with a Nel Tornado coil. last time i was out i got a great signal which turned out to be a .177 air rifle pellet at around a foot down. so, it will find small objects even with the stock coil.
i like the iron audio feature on the 400 and use it a lot but i dont run with it on all the time, just a check here and there. im not entirely sure but the 400 may well have better iron resolution that the euro. i think. For the price i genuinely think that the 400i is a killer machine

Does anyone know if the 400i detects deeper than a euroace ? I know it's a general question..

<t>May be worth contacting one of the suppliers, Crawfords or Regtons or even email Garrett.<br/>
Had the 400i for 15 months but not used the euroace so can`t compare. Use the stock 11.0 x8.5 coil.</t>
Sorry this is not much help.

i think that depth betwixt a euro ace and a 400i would be negligible if anything. you would gain target id, iron audio and run at a slightly higher frequency if you got one but i cant see there being a big difference in depth really. if you want to punch a bit deeper, try a Nel Tornado coil on the euro ace.

So what im thinking is my ideal set up is a Garrett 400i and a NEL HUNTER could which goes around 10% deeper than the standard coil, so i might gain an in inch or so on some targets..that would still come out cheaper than buying an AT pro.

i almost got the hunter myself but i wanted a bit more ground coverage. so now i use the stock coil here and there, the tornado most of the time and if i need to get into tight spots, or uber junky ground, i use the Nel Snake coil. the snake really suprised me at how deep it can punch for such a small coil. 8 inch all day long. The sales pitch for the tornado says its "golden" at finding coins and my first trip out with it gave me 27 coins. now i admit, a good chunk of those were 1970's decimal coins, but not all. it also seems to hit far deeper than my stock. one signal sounded great and when i dug it out i swear i passed peter cushing at the earths core, alas caroline munroe was nowhere to be seen but all it was, was a tiny piece of aluminium about the size of a grain of rice.
i dont know if your supposed to, but when i swap coils i do a reset on the detector so that it "sees" the new coil.
im biding my time for now about getting another machine as in a cpl of years i can get at my pension funds lol. who knows what tech will be around in a cpl of years.

OP, i cant see the point in going from 1 entry lvl machine to another, you should be looking at at least mid range for your 2nd machine, something like a good used T2 that will out perform all of the Ace range,

give this guy a shout, he gets lots of used machines in all the time.

Yes definitely feel like a 400i although very equivalent to my current EuroAce it is a superior machine, higher frequency, iron descrim and numerical display > for the extra money it sound like i might get something a bit more scalable for when i buy a new coil. Im not into swapping and messing about ( i just bought the eurace to see if i enjoyed the hobby which i do ). Im selling to get something worth keeping for a couple years or more.
