Equinox 800 tone pitch frequencies ? # # SOLVED #

Post by Dave8472 » Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:26 pm

Hi all, in a quest to make my NOX sound a bit more like my custom CTX3030 sounds that have been drummed into my head for 7 years.

I am looking for the technical specification of the actual frequencies of the 25 levels of tone pitch that can be used ?

ie tone pitch 1 = 5kHz etc

Anyone got any ideas please ?

I can work around it if not, just would be easier as I have them from my CTX

Sorry no idea. I must have hit lucky though because the first thing that I thought was jusy how much like my CTX the Nox sounded in 50 tones. 😁

I tried the NOX in 50 tones today and didn't like it :))

I use a custom combined program for the CTX with 4 tones and a separate one for iron, I've got to adjust the NOX zones slightly but would also like to try and match my frequencies I currently use ::g

I also struggled with the 50 tones at first, so had a day just using 2 tones, then a day just using 5 tones, then a day using 50 tones and am now quite comfortable with them and this is in all-metal mode. I did at first play about with tone settings to make them more familiar but ended up back at standard - need to keep an open mind to learn some things here. :D ::g

Sounds may not match anyway if you are using different headphones from the CTX. Probably easier and quicker just to set up 5 tones and listen as you adjust.

Controls aside, CTX to Nox is probably the easiest step possible. Unfortunately the Nox target IDs are nowhere near as precise as the CTX but you can squeeze out more information by using 50 tones.

As you are in Kent pm me if you get into difficulties or want (or need) a quick run through of the controls. Might save you some time.

I’m glad you e solved your query. Understand where you’re coming from ::g
I was sorely disappointed when I bought my Nox. I’d previously, last but one, had a Safari. It was like a musical instrument and I loved it.
I did manage to change the tone break (amazingingly technical for me) as I was getting the Iron tone on target numbers as high as 14.
But alas I’ve had to get used to the crappy tones. Can’t understand why they changed them.

Best of luck with it.

Yep, nothing worse than a steep learning curve. It took me a long time to get used to the Deus, The CTX I have run for so long, and my main choice as I am on mainly pasture. Its ended up like driving a car :))

PS yes I went to a noisy site yesterday on 'Field2' and lots on the iron was reading up to 10-12 etc. I have now discovered the Iron Bias setting so will tweak when back there next time

I liked the tone set up and was keen to reproduce it ::g

My test setting are now set for Sunday

Do let us know how you get on with Field 2. I keep trying it (as well as the odd venture into the Gold modes) but on my ground the signals are nowhere near as sharp and positive as they are with Field 1. ::g

Setting are working out really well, been on a few different sites now and all’s good.

I am now experimenting with recovery speed, iron bias and ground balance.

The TB is for tone break, these are the zones for the different tones to be active in. Mine are slightly different to the factory ones, with a heavier focus on the high conductive targets to sound similar, as I would always dig all of those. The ‘Hammered’ zone is also better defined.

I have found ‘Field1’ the better program so far for the fields types I have been on, I have toggled between 1 and 2 on several targets before digging.

Interesting Dave. ::g Not that I envisage ever using 50 tones, but ,its always interesting to hear& take notes on others findings (just in case I ever get curious)

These are my default settings so far, I do a lot of high trash iron sites hence the faster recovery speeds, I just couldn't get on with 50 tones, as I am so used to 5 on the CTX and 3 on the Deus ::g

Very interesting reading this evolve. Especially interested in observations like this from experienced detectorists coming to the Nox. I am coming to the Nox from a different direction (GMP) but I am struck with how this thread echoes my own observations after a couple of trips out. I have toyed with 50 tones (by accident it must be said :D ) and found them too much and felt with 5 tones less was definitely more. Now maybe that will change as I get comfortable. I remember some settings on the GMP when I first had it that I found too busy, yet after a few months I couldn't understand why I had initially struggled. So I daresay the same could happen this time.
Like Dave I am detecting sites I know. I am in Field I (though I have earmarked a couple of sites where Field 2 will get an airing) and although I have the 600 I have the comparable settings to those above. I am also finding that the Iron Bias is key and have been experimenting in different levels on different areas....I have some very quiet pasture and arable where I can knock it down and yet within them areas of old buildings which are naturally infested. So been boosting it in those. (I twigged the need to make an adjustment yesterday when what I thought was a perfectly acceptable signal turned out to be the business end of a spade. :)) )
I'm not hung up about digging iron and rubbish. Nobody sees so I am not embarrassed. :D I am much more concerned with not missing good targets.
Equinox 600, GMP, wellies.

I have severe hearing loss and wondered if there were some tones I was not hearing through my hearing aids, so daves list of frequencies was very handy as a quick trip to youtube was all that was needed to have a listen to all of them. Thanks Dave.
