I will get one to have a play with just because I can. I don't expect it to outperform the CTX in most situations but if it can winkle out small finds from amongst the iron on some of my busier sites then I will be happy. Who knows it may even exceed my expectations. ::g

I know that there is a considerable volume of advance orders so it will be very interesting to see how quickly Minelab can knock them out to the dealers. I'm not sure if there is even a firm delivery date yet? :-/

As I read it, both machines run multi frequency across the whole range, but the 600 is limited in it's single frequency options and does not run 20hz or 40hz on their own. I guess these are considered gold frequencies so the higher end machine has a more dedicated platform for gold hunting with just 20kh or 40khz. The 600 only runs these when combined with the other freqs.

Being in the UK I would think that the 600 will meet the needs of a lot of people, unless you insist on having the wireless headphones.

There are some other differences between the 600 and 800, e.g. Wireless capabilities, what headphones they ship with etc.

Hopefully a side by side comparison will be provided at some point... but I'm also wondering what I'd get for the extra money the 800 is...

You Tube will be full of videos by January/February, and the rest of the detecting media will add plenty more, including MDF no doubt. If it turns out to be a game changer I will find the cash, if not I will keep swinging what I've got.

It's a very bold statement from Minelab to say that the Equinox will make all other VLF detectors obsolete. It's not as if the release will automatically make our machines stop working !! People started finding great stuff with crude machines back in the 70s lest we forget.

I hope the equinox is a special machine and consequently pushes detector tech to a new level. If it is then that can only be good for all of us in the long run whether we buy this particular machine or not.

From the manual two things that seem steps in the right direction are software update able and the fact that you can set the tone break volume to zero hz, so you can detect wide open, not loose depth but choose if to hear iron signals or not. I know normally I would want to hear iron but nice to have the option- not a first I know.

Again from reading the manual, and I could well have missed it but there seems to be no all metal non-motion mode. All metal yes, but still seems to be a motion mode.....am I missing something??

I'm very new to this so not sure if this is what you're after.

Pinpoint switches off motion detection, but it also disables discrimination so all metals

With Pinpoint enabled, the discrimination pattern is temporarily
disabled so that EQUINOX will detect all metals. Pinpoint also
switches off motion detection, so a target signal will be heard even
if the coil is stationary.
Pinpoint progressively masks the Target response by reducing
the Sensitivity with each sweep until only a very narrow target
response remains. This helps identify the exact location of the
target.

Ipcress, thank you for your reply. It is not really the pinpoint mode I was thinking about. More so a general non- motion search mode. I find it useful sometimes in woodland.

@ ds1 yep I thought I may have been up the wrong tree.

Though as it's firmware is USB upgradeable, there's a good chance that the feature list could be enhanced latter.

I presume ML will be getting requests and feedback within days of people taking delivery.........hopefully with suggestions and not bug fix rants?

Hi FUBAR From what I can tell the price will be pretty strict, certainly to start with as there will be limited amounts.
The price of the Equinox 800 is £879
and the Equinox 600 is £679
