Minelab Equinox loose upper shaft issue?

Post by Copperballs1 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 3:15 am

Anyone else had this issue with their Equinox 800? Think this will probably be a one off as most of the reviews I have seen compliment the build of the machine.

There is some movement on mine which Leisure Promotions are getting sorted out with Minelab for me .There are a few others on different forums that I am aware of also. There seems to have been a bad batch of lower camlocks that got through quality control. It doesn,t stop me from detecting and I,m doing well with it. Hopefully my shaft will be as stiff as others soon :D

Mine had the problem when I first used it. Seems to have fixed itself now, think the sand has roughed up the surface of the lower shaft and cured the problem.

Mine isn't loose but it does make an annoying creeking noise when I'm swinging around.

Don't swing around then! :D ::g

But seriously, I have fixed one of these loose shafts for a friend, using a little insulating tape around the shaft, it is just a manufacturing tolerance thing, a bit shoddy for a new machine, but not the end of the world.

I havnt got one yet but seen videos of a lot of top to bottom stem movement.... how does the battery / controller fit on the stem as I havnt seen one up close.... is it allen bolts and clamp type fixture ???, just wondered if could go on a Anderson shaft or adapt another spare shaft on it, if it's a manufacturing issue minelab prob ort to sort...???

Yes you can use an Anderson shaft or any other make for that matter. There is a set screw underneath the control/handle, just need to drill a hole in the new shaft to accommodate it.
