Next up........

Post by Keef the Frog » Sat Nov 16, 2019 10:26 am

Not having much to offer still on the MDing front, I thought I'd put up my current fave "death assemblage".
On the beach only part of the top right ammonite was exposed.
Loads of hours in but a long way off finished but you'll get the idea.
Block's about 16" (406.4mm) across. :))

Bon weekend !

Totally don’t need to show detecting finds if you can offer that.
What a beautiful piece.
Have you any before pictures and the time to explain the process you went through to bring the detail out to such a superb standard?

You start off finding a block with enough showing that there could be something good inside.

I started on the top right ammonite which I could see with a CP air pen, I've a TT pen for the inner whorls but this stuff's so hard it was more effective with a sharp dot punch & small hammer to get the matrix to ping off the fossils.
As you clear the matrix the other goodies appear hopefully not getting damaged first.
When I've found everthing there is to find in the block & exposed them the remaining rough matrix is dressed smooth then you start on another block, simples. =))

“Simples”😦, I would have lost patience at the cp air pen bit I’m affraid. I’m too lazy.
You have inspired my little ones to want to go fossil hunting tomorrow now though. Which is what we are destined to do.
If they find anything we’ll send it to you to do😉👍

No idea you had to do things to them, I thought that’s how they are found .

Controlled shot blaster might take the graft out of cleaning

Some of them "pop" straight out but not many & it's a bit risky & yes, you can use air abrasives but not for roughing out.
