Correctly id’d As Giant ammonite fossil portion.

I lugged this home in the finds bag this afternoon.it was a Bit heavy.
I think it could be a giant clam? Not sure though. Any ideas.

Like a chunk off an ammonite?

I thought that too. I know an area where those come off of and all sorts of large shells turn up. :D

Are you sure it isn't part of a sign from a garage forecourt?

Looks to me more like a piece of outer whorl of a large ammonite
