Metal detecting find. Any ideas what it could be?

Post by Leach27 » Wed Dec 05, 2018 6:49 pm

Found this Little Rock in Scotland about 6 inches down. Will show a before and after picture of it slightly cleaned and then properly cleaned. Any ideas what it could be? Could be copper ore or something but ive no idea about these kind of things. The picture with the red and purple minerals on it I used the flash that’s why it looks gold but the other picture is when it’s been properly cleaned without flash.

At the moment it just looks like a bit of bronze dross but hopefully it will prove to be something identifiable. ::g

Was thinking a copper alloy something or fools gold. Sending it to the museum to be examined. These pics are zoomed in. It’s the size of a 10 pence piece. Thanks for the opinions everyone! ::g

I picked up a few nice bits of stone with iron pyrite in them when on hols in Scotland. Seems to be the place for it.
Let us know if you get an answer from the Museum ::g .
