Simplex+ tips, tricks and best settings.

Post by TinDigger »

So how are all you simplex owners getting on with your detectors? Things I have learned so far:
  • The most recent firmware version is V2.68 dated 1st Nov 2019. The firmware version is displayed on your LCD when you first power on the detector. You can download new firmware here, by clicking software update on the left menu halfway down page... https://www.noktadetectors.com/metal-de ... -detector/
  • The wireless connection to the headphones is wifi, not bluetooth
  • The 'old' faulty coils are visually different to the newer ones. Check this thread to see which one you have... viewtopic.php?f=316&t=118415
  • Setting the sensitivity to max in field mode and shifting the freq over to F3 seems to give incredible depth with hardly any chatter
  • You can prevent 90% of the interference from many pin-pointers by using the F3 freq setting
  • The supplied charger is garbage and often causes the detector to switch on by itself, probably due to intermittent contact on the mains euro-adpater. Use a standard 5V 2A phone charger or battery bank for the win
I will add other tips and tricks from other forum members to this post as time goes by. [:)

Field mode is the same as deep mode on the anfibio and impact so swing slow.

Park mode you’ll need to swing a little faster.

Also the top section of stem underneath has a little line.
This is the MAX line. So makes sure this is above the top quick release.

I have run the Simplex in 'Field' mode very successfully on several beaches and found the signals easier to hear with the 'green headphones'.

You might need to knock the sensitivity down a notch, but with regular ground balancing it performs really well and my old ears prefer the tones.

Regards all,
Alan

No I run at 90 all the time. I did some testing on my established test bed and when GBing the signals
Become scratchy after 9”
When GB 90 it’s loud and clear.

Good info chaps. Interesting to hear a lot of people favour the F3 freq setting.

Hi Folks today I had a window in the weather for a beach trip, even though the wind was strong n a little chilly.

Finds were sparse other than trash, but using the standard preset beach mode and just adjusting the sensitivity was all I needed to do.

The Nokta probe and the detector were fine when set on F1.

I did play about with the sensitivity, but using the factory preset was best.

its a little heavy compared to my favorite XP Deus which I have used for 11 years, but will be a good affordable back up workhorse machine for myself and close friends.

It has the thumbs up from this octogenarian with many years detecting experience using various manufacturers machines over the years.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.

Hi Moruglah (and other colleagues of course),

sorry if this is a silly question, but when you said above the settings you use on different occasions, you wrote "no disc" - I understand you mean no discrimination.

By that do you mean the Notch Discrimination?

And another query:
Which setting would you use in a very mineralized pasture? Would you use the beach mode, or other combination of settings?

Thanks!

Christian

Yep ‘no disc’ means no discrimination.

Me I would Ground balance it to see what value it would give me. And then go from there.
I have a field here that is really sandy due to onions used to grow there and the ground balance is around 15 lower than a pure mud field. And I do use beach mode on it. But you’ll notice the first 3 are notched out and can’t be brought back in.
You’ll miss small hammered at depth with this.

Thanks,
because sometimes it is a bit difficult to ground balance adequately in mineralized soil. One friend used in his very mineralized field the beach mode (not with the Simplex), and said could get god finds, swinging the detector slowly.

Thanks

Christian.

I had a button on the sandy field in beach mode at some sort of depth.
Small hammered will still come in but will be more of a scratchy tone than normal.

Interesting, but I still favour ground balancing in each field, as on my sites there is variation.
