Welcome to the Forum. Lots of informative people on here, some have specialist knowledge, continually learning from all the posts.
Grew up in Bridgnorth, which is where I first started detecting. Lots of Civil war action in the County. Used to pass by that precarious lump of Bridgnorth Castle everyday on the way to school. Now on the south coast.
Don`t see the word Salop used much outside of Shropshire.
Good Luck and look forward to seeing some of your finds.

Fight the temptation hardergrahamofsalop wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2017 4:20 pmHello from Shrewsbury. My old Whites XLT spent the last 15 years in the garage. I dusted it down this weekend and got out on the Kingdom of Mercia club dig at Gnosall. I'm now fighting the temptation to rush out and buy a new detector, it could be a losing battle.
XLT is a cracking machine although a believe the factory setting are on the soft stable side.
Glad you enjoyed yourself and gotten the detecting bug back.
Sure was a hot day with very little wind.

As with several other machines, it's been around for so long because it's proved itself as a competent and reliable machine although it's known to be a a bit of a fiddle going through the various menus and settings. It's true to say that as well as the changes made in the last 15/20 years there has also been a huge cost related price hike and that fact may well figure in your eventual decision - to buy or not to but!
Whatever you decide, a good check through some of the usual video's available (Gary's site is a well known example) and the results will pay dividends. Also, a price match offer is available from Crawford's of Scunthorpe who are sponsers of this forum. The MDF shop/auction site also has some excellent 'make an offer' deals (which have often saved myself and other members a few bob!
Good Luck Regards ss47
