Hello and welcome.

No such thing as a stupid question (other than "should I lick this electric cable" and suchlike) so never be afraid to ask.

Enjoy the forum.
Essential equipment:
Some sort of electrical gubbins(I'm told it's a Deus). In various colours
Jenkins
Gin.

Hi Buddy.

Look up the Devon and Cornwall /Dorset Detectorists club. they have open digs through out the year mainly in Cornwall, just sign up and attend digs/ should be a good place to start for you.

Goodluck....

Just been to see my farming neighbor (2 min walk as I am out in the sticks) asked them if it would be possible to detect on their land and they said yes ::g they will show me where they think houses may have been many years ago and a few lumps and bumps in some fields really happy now I just need to buy a detector. Was thinking about a Garrett Ace 250 are these ok for a starter and above for the future?

What a Great start for you to this amazing hobby of ours :)) already have a permission/farm close by also, which sounds interesting, possible old buildings. :-O fantastic.

Choosing a detector, I'm sure u will get plenty of good advice on the forum, on which detector to start with, Garrett 250 is a good starter for sure, owned one myself many moons ago, I would also look to the Cscope 1mx 17khz areal performing unit for the price excellent macnine/ take your time on finding the rite detector for your needs/fields u are searching check out you tube vids and any unbiased reviews.

Goodluck.
