Good morning from Hertfordshire

Post by Runnerflash » Fri Dec 28, 2018 6:37 am

Greetings to you all,
I am about to get my very first metal detector today.
I am driving to a shop in Kent this morning to purchase an Equinox 600 - super excited!
I have warned my friends and family that their gardens will never look the same again.
Once I get to know how to use it I will attempt to find a friendly farmer to obtain permission.
Best regards and a Happy New Year.

Good luck with the 600, by all accounts a very capable machine and a real advantage buying face to face, make a list of any questions you may have and also good luck with permissions, I hope you are lucky and gain one quickly.

I bought the Equinox 600 yesterday and read the manual 5 times. This afternoon I have been in the garden digging holes in my wife’s prize lawn.
I have found a ring pull from a can, a gold coloured bottle cap (for a moment I thought it was 4 gold coins) and a two pence piece.
I have now been banned from digging any more holes.
This is very addictive!

Remember to keep a picture of your wife in a pocket so that you don't forget what she looks like :))

Runnerflash welcome. Yes, the hobby is a bit addictive. Been out three hours a day for the last three days. Dug eight coins that are mostly unidentifiable, although definitely a George 111, a George V and almost certainly a couple of Romans, but too badly toasted to identify them. Got a bagful of Victorian rubbish, drawer handles etc, so nothing earth shattering, but one day, oh yes, one day it will happen. It's nice just wandering around the fields though.

Must keep positive!

I have telephoned 25 farms in Hertfordshire this afternoon in attempt to gain access but without success.
I have a top rate metal detector that’s itching to visit a site.
Has anyone any further advice please?

Forgot to mention that I also visited five farms, but two were tenants and were not allowed to offer access, one had had previous detectors but had seriously damaged the fields and two had arrangements with other detectorists. I am an opptomist so I will persevere on my quest
