So firstly welcome to the MDF and metal detecting as a hobby. To get some pointers on buying a metal detector, and to find out more about this forum you might want to read this guide.
On finding places to detect it can be easy or difficult depending on luck, who you know, where you live, etc. However joining clubs is almost always hard. This hobby has become very popular and most clubs are full. But if you can go to their meetings as a visitor a few time and are willing to help out and get involved joining becomes a lot easier. I’m sure someone will help you with one nearby, or try Google
