Newbie metal detector

Post by Nugget19 » Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:13 pm

Good evening ladies & gents.

A friend many years ago suggested detecting to me & I know taking the plunge.

Firstly I would really appreciate advice on what is a good all round detector that is
not going to bankrupt me.

I have been looking at youtube & I already bought insurance. I'm learning about
it's & dont's as in etiquette when I go out and making sure I'm respectful & mindful
of people's perceptions of ppl who have this hobby.

But any advice on my first metal detector would be amazing.

My profile name is Nuggett19 but my name is Noel :) :))

Hi Noel, a warm welcome to the forum. On the Menu on the left there is a special topic that will help you - Which Detector? which is written by one of our Mods. All the very best, Liam :;@

Hello Noel ::g Welcome aboard the Forums and good luck with your decision to buy your first detector. A good look through the forums over there l;/ in the blue panel, will provide plenty of information to help selecting a machine to suit your requirements and budget. As long as you stick to the popular brands and preferably buy from a recognised dealership, you should be on sound ground whichever model you opt for.

As you are new to the hobby, my advice would be to steer clear of on-line auctions which can be problematic on many fronts.

All the best and enjoy your time with us on the MDF ::g Regards ss47

Hello sweepstick - Thanks for reaching out. I am really excited to be here now.
I can't wait to start. I found a ship in Kent so illsee down this week to purchase my detector.

I worry find a buddy to. I'm not driving right now.

I have allotments opposite my place so its a great starting point & I think Garrett 300 is a great starter all rounder.

Welcome to the forum. I fear you may be inadvertently making the mistake many before you have done - of assuming renting land means you can detect it. I’m afraid it doesn’t. You will need to gain permission from the owners of the land before switching on your detector.

Sadly, for many people, seeking land is the biggest issue when starting out in this hobby. I hope it isn’t yours ::g

Hi Oxgirl

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to ask my neighbours if I can have a cheeky practice.
3 of them have plots & we all get on well. I will ask them to write to the person
who looks after the allotments.

I will hopefully be purchasing my detector this week [:) B-)
