Hello

I am living in central Italy and my partner has just bought a metal detector. We are both novices in the field

Oh wow bet detecting in Italy is great fun. Are there lots of restrictions?

Look forward to seeing what you find ::g

We visited a complete Roman bridge on the Flaminia on Saturday (Ponte Fonnaia) that is 15m high and 20m wide. Only a small visitor sign to mark it. Completely different from the UK. However the soil is like concrete.
You are not allowed in archaeological zones and you have to ask the permission of land owners. There is a lot of abandoned land in Italy.

Hello Phil ::g Welcome aboard the forum and Good Luck to you both in your detecting exploits. ::g
During a stop-over in Positano/Amalfi in 1979, my finds were few but brass telephone tokens with a groove in them, did turn up quite frequently. :( I hope you have greater success ::g Regards ss47

Thanks for your messsage.
I might have a look. I am in Umbria so it is quite a long drive. There was a big Roman battle north of Trasimeno so I plan to go there one day. There are some WW2 battle sites not too far away.

Fabulous place to be I bet. Went to Capri a few years ago and wish I could have had a quick swing or two over some of the area.
