Newbie from the Planet Thanet

Post by Dom » Mon Feb 12, 2018 9:15 pm

Hi all,
Use to metal detect when i was younger, about 30 years ago now i think about it x; , when i was about 15. Had a very budget c-scope and mostly found unexploded mortar bombs on the north downs. Had to phone the police 3 times.
I got permission recently on a piece of land where i use to rent a workshop. So i decided to buy a second hand detector, ended up getting a golden mask 5 +, silly really, if i was a sensible person i wouldn't of, as my finances scream No!
But this place has a lot of saxon activity onwards... and the itch was real bad. So... spent 8hrs on Wednesday, 8hrs in pouring rain on saturday... again on sunday and now today. A new machine to learn and the iron was so bad! The machine was beeping constantly iron and it was iron, as i dug it up. I wanted to throw my detector away. But today i had an epiphany, turned the threshold down slightly, took it slow and listened.
Such a corker of a day! Got an Elizabeth 1st silver hammered, i think it's the 1584 one and another weird silver coin i can't id. A vicky penny 1843 some weird weight thing... actually... a few weird things i need to id one of which might possibly be a broach. Started at 9am and was shocked when it was dark at 5:30pm... where did the time go?!
Anyway... that's me... totally bitten basically.

Great introduction Dom.

Sounds like you are thoroughly hooked. Anyone willing to dig for that long is doing well, in the rain is impressive. But in the rain and freezing conditions over the last few days? I take my hat of to you ::g

P.S. be lovely to see your finds :D
