Newbie From Durham.... wondering which first machine to buy?

Post by mackemrob » Tue Feb 13, 2018 9:33 pm

Hi all
i've been on and off this site for a couple of years now, reading up on this and that. i was planning on buying an ace 250 a year ago, but now i can afford a little more.
i'm a bit stuck between a Nokta Impact or Teknetics T2?
absoutly new to this so hoping for some gems of wisdom.

aslo if anyone in the north east is looking for a buddy for a couple of hours i'd love to learn the ropes.

cheers

Rob

Hi Rob and welcome, both detectors listed are good machines, but I would also look at the Makro multi Kruzer ::g

Hi Rob - if you haven't been out detecting already all I can suggest is that you don't spend too much money on your first machine - yes the Ace 250 is recommended by many people (me included) - it's not expensive and it does the job extremely well. Being bright yellow is a bit of a put off though :) Price doesn't mean success - you can find just as much with the 250 as you can with a £600 machine - ask yourself how potentially committed you think you are to the hobby? The 250 will however have a reasonable trade-in value if you decide to get one and subsequently upgrade.

Hi Rob. You might want to read the Which detector? post on the right hand blue menu l;/ in the Metal Detectors section. This will help you to decide where you want to detect and a few other things.

If you want to add some extra info on where you want to detect it will help other members give you better advice. Beach detecting requires different considerations to land detecting.

Hope that helps and good luck in choosing a machine that works for you ::g

See that you are going for a medium high end machine to start :) thats good but make sure you will stick with the hobby as it is a lot of money to put into a hobby at the beginning.

For the Nokta Impact and the Teknetics T2, both are good machines but you might have a slight edge with the "Nokta imapact" as it uses 3 frequencys where as the "Teknetics T2" only 1. Apart from that they are both good machines and both have an excellent reputation.

An above poster mentioned the Makro multi kruzer which has just come out and also looks promising it also uses 3 frequency's.

Also depends on where you will be detecting as others have said so if you can give some information you will get some better responses.

hope this helps, roberts

If still looking for a detecting 'Buddy', there's a specific forum to place such a request which should elicit more replies from like minded members in your neck of the woods. See link below.

When choosing a first machine its important to consider that you will probably be looking at an upgrade after about 2+ years... it all depends on your budget, and commitment to the hobby..
You could go for the kill and invest in a Deus ,,, then no need for an upgrade, or you can put your toe in the water with a £300-£600 machine.
All machines find beautiful stuff, so it doesnt matter which one you choose.
Imagine there is no heaven, only sky above us.
