New Club maybe near Bicester/Oxford/Banbury

Post by mrsmelly » Wed Mar 08, 2017 7:11 pm

Hi Everyone

I am new to this forum and have recently come back to the hobby after years away due to time restrictions. I now have more time and would like to meet like minded people in my area for a chat and hopefully to form a new club for our mutual enjoyment. At first an informal meet is what I have planned where everything can be discussed re the formalities without any hassle.
I own a small licensed Bistro with seating inside for twenty odd people and plenty of parking as a venue. I dont envisage many people at first but who knows? I am also licensed so a drink to break the ice is on the cards at a very reasonable discounted rate and I will stand the first round :-O
Also Tea and coffee at zero cost on first meeting can I be fairer than that?
So what have you to lose? A free beer and free venue for the meeting and hopefully take it from there.
Hope I have posted this correctly and could people if interested please pm me in the first instance to get the ball rolling. I am situated 7 miles from Bicester at The Heyfords.

Thanks

Tim

All the very best Tim in the new venture. Your expertise in running your own business will help you enormously in running a club. Plenty of people on here have started off their own club, so lots of experiences and advice to draw on, Liam OooO

Hello Tim I live in Bicester and am interested in your meetings. In fact wife and I were at Kizzies for breakfast this morning and Lady said you were not back in for a couple of weeks when I enquired. On way back to Somerton we spotted a bunch of detectorists in a field and wondered if this was your guys. Not sure how to contact you on this site so will keep looking for reply. Best regards Mark

Hi mark you can private message Tim by pressing the PM button just under his name. If he's away it'll be quicker than leaving a message on here. [:)

Hi I was part of the club but sadly Tim ended up selling his business and moving and it sort of fell apart. The last meeting, that I arranged, only had 3 of us. It’s a shame because I enjoyed the chance to talk to other people, and they were all really friendly and good fun too!

If I had more time i’d get it going again, but I don’t :(

Hi
I'd be interested in getting together and trying to get something up and running. Even if it's just for a chat (but getting out would be better).
I am from Wantage but happy to travel a bit to oxford and beyond. Been on lots of big organized digs but struggling to get local permissions here so would love to try a joint effort.
Any interest locally from anyone?
Cheers
Ross.

Cheers
Steve

hello, it has always been a struggle to get permission on land this last 10/15 years when the likes of weekend wonders and many others can pay big bucks to the land owner and charge big bucks for the privilege of a days detecting for those who have no permissions, to many its now a business and it has taken away the small club ideals, if you do form a new club i would suggest you limit to 25 so you get to know each other and trust is important, have guest days, if you manage to get land treat the owner with respect as i have seen clubs loose land because of bad practice, farmers are interested to know what was found and rightly so, 50/50 if treasure trove, and you could affiliate with banbury museum, and FID or NCMD and the FLO officer, i did this with a group but we had a hawker so that ended also went out on own without permission, if 25 pay £10 each per sunday £200 to land owner £50 to club funds, you do not always get the full amount of people every week, oh and a gift at christmas. this would be my way of thinking, BUT THEN WHAT DO I KNOW :))
