Ok, I propose an initial meet at the Brook on the corner of Perne Road and Mill Road (actually Brookfields but you wouldn't notice) in Cambridge two weeks from now. That's Monday the 14th at 8pm. It just off the ring road, has a car park and a beer garden and the soccerball thingy should be over by then. Who's up for it?
The 14th is Saturday WL, not Monday?

;) ok WL... what was that about blaming your tools! I may well be able to make that. I need to speak to Mrs SR as my foot is not in driving condition at the moment.

Walking distance from my hotel if I can arrange to be in town that night. Put me down as a definite maybe.

This is great, thanks to all who have responded. Looks like we could have upwards of 7 or 8 people there, what a great start. And all thanks to this fantastic forum.

I was planning on getting there early and leaving my bright orange GP Pointer on the table as a bit of a clue. You'll also probably recognise me from my avatar. :)

Hi everyone, just signed up and about to get started. I'm in South Cambs, in a village south east of Cambridge. I'm currently eyeing a Garrett 400i, as I read on here that, if you can stretch to it, it's a better machine than the Euro Ace.

I'd really welcome joining a club that's not too far from me. Currently without a car, so cycling distance is essential, although I have use of a car if needs be.

Did the OP mean 16th July at the Brook, not 14th? I'm a bit confused haha. I'll try to be there! =))

Didn't initially see the post about date correction!

Keep us all posted on how it goes. Probably a bit far for me in North Cambridgeshire.

Oh I will. It's shaping up nicely, should have a good few people along with any luck. Very much looking forward to it. I'm not expecting great things, this is just a chance for a pint and a chat but we'll see what comes of it.

Well that was a promising start and a fun evening. Jezperrott, f8met and Edurley all made it along, all very nice people. I'm going to try to find a pub with a back room or similar for the next time. As f8met pointed out, if we're going to bring along finds to show everyone it would be sensible to do it away from public gaze. And he does have some amazing finds, the rest of us have some catching up to do. We'll be doing it again soon, hopefully within a month, and maybe get a few more people along next time. Well worth doing.

Just thought it would be a good idea to start planning the next one so we all have a bit of notice. Anyone got any thoughts on where to meet up? ANd who's likely to make it along? Let's keep the ball rolling.

Darn. Joined this forum six months ago, got nowhere with a Cambridge meet. Thought I'd check today and see I've by the skin of my teeth just missed your first meet.

I'm up for the next one, just to get started. I'm a raw beginner I'm afraid, but interested in research as much as detecting.

Hope it happens.

Ok, I'd like to do this in the next couple of weeks, don't want to leave it too long. Who's up for it and where shall we meet? With any luck by then we'll have had a bit more rain and we'll have got out and found something to bring along and show.
