Bourton on the Water well worth a visit, not just a pretty Cotswold village doing cream teas, you have Birdland, the model village and the Bourton Motor Museum, the home of Brum.

Bob ::g
Seem to remember that when I was a kid they had a model railway shop/museum there also??
And not forgetting Bibury, and a spot of fishing at South Cerney.

Yes the large model railway is still there, with the shop selling thousands of models, went around it last year and a lovely set up especially when it goes to "night time" and main lights are dimmed and the models all light up - another attraction well worth a visit.

Bibury is worth visiting and you have the famous Arlington Row of cottages which were built in 1380 as a monastic wool store. This was converted into a row of cottages for weavers in the seventeenth century.
Also the fish farm, where trout are bred and sold to fisheries around the country. You can buy fish food there to feed them ... so you pay the fish farm for the food then you feed their fish with it - a clever business set up (but the kids love it).

Still some good tench fishing at South Cerney.

You are also on the door step for the Cotswold Water Park.

OK folks you get the idea, there is a lot to do in the area ::g ::g

Think its time I filled in my CV and sent it of to the local tourist board =))

Loving the tourist information services being provided here and am itching to join in, but I suppose I’d best behave =))

So, to keep us vaguely on topic, could anyone share how these wonderful tips have got them to book this weekend dig? We need to measure the success please.

Come on we’re going to have an MDF meet up here, and (apparently) a ‘best home made badge with your MDF name on’ competition. What more do you want? B-)

Unfortunately I cant get to the dig, as I am out with the welsh guys (same area) the week before, but if I did get out, I wont be wearing a name badge ... no need really, as you'll instantly recognise me as the loudest person there... ohh and the one eye is also a bit of a give away!

Hi Bob,

Yes, aiming to. I've booked the weekend ticket, but as I've not had the tent out for a couple of years, I might feel too old for it come September, in which case I can always drive home each night.

Time marches on and I am really looking forward to meeting up with some MDF members and enjoying the detecting whilst supporting such a good Charity.
Its a beautiful area anyway, steeped in history across all ages, so there should be some good finds. I am opting to camp as from experience I know that bumpy ground is well cancelled out by copious amounts of beer or wine. :;@ Liam

Latest update...

Hi All,
Just a quick update to you all firstly we are now almost fully booked for this weekend Event, We have limited tickets left so if you are thinking about attending then we suggest you get yourself booked up.
Also if you have booked but not yet paid to reserve your place you will need to pay for your tickets. We can not guarantee your place if you have not paid.
We will be sending out a Email to those who have reserved a ticket but not yet paid. If we do not hear back from you then we will have to assume you no longer require your ticket and we will put it back up for Re Sale.
The Response to this Event has been truly amazing. The Messages of support from all of you has been well incredible. You the Metal Detecting community can feel proud of yourselves as so many groups, individuals, Detecting Shops, magazines and manufacturers have given their support through messages and Raffle Prizes. I would love to name you all but that would be impossible, The cause we are raising money for is such a good one i am sure most of us have been touched by cancer in one way or another and loosing my father was the worst pain i have ever felt in my life. The Cancer Care unit at Bath Royal United Hospital do an amazing job and the charity who are raising money for them have asked us to extend their utmost gratitude for your support.
So on behalf of the Rodney Cook Memorial Organisers and myself we would like to say thank you so much for your support and we are looking forward to seeing you all in September and get together for a damn good weekend and hopefully a find or two.
remember if you want to book email Lisa at charitydetectingevent@hotmail.com

Just checked on the latest update from the organisers. Note no camper van or caravan tickets left! Here it is....

Hi All,
Right we now only have 30 weekend tickets left,so if you are still thinking about coming for the weekend you had better be quick.
We have now filled all spaces for caravans and Camper vans/RV Vehicles, sorry guys. There are still spaces available if you wish to camp (tents only).
Right for all of you who have reserved a ticket and have been allocated a personal number but have not yet paid you will shortly be receiving a Email requesting payment. Please note to guarantee your place you have to pay for your ticket. If we have not received payment within 7 days then we will assume you no longer wish to attend and your ticket will go back up for sale.

Again for all of you who have booked and paid on behalf of myself and the other organisers and the Bath Cancer Care Unit, may we thank you for your support. I know I have said it before but the offers of help and support and the generosity has been astounding and we are so grateful to all of you.
We are all working so hard to make the weekend a success and for all of you to have a great time we are currently working on the entertainment for the weekend.

The Nox really isn't a difficult machine, especially if you actually read the manual. :D I expect that by September there will be more than enough experienced users. A consensus is already starting to emerge about how best to set it up. ::g

A good point from 'Fred ::g :- "especially if you actually read the manual"(quote)

Yes it may seem obvious, but it's a very valid point in my book, especially so when it comes to those enthusiastic 'new users' (and we've all been there) who, in their eagerness to use a new machine, sometimes merely skimp though much of the content during their initial reading. The result being that in practice, an opportunity to gain a day's experience of the machine's potential, has simply become a day of confusion and an opportunity lost. Reading the manual, is a case where once is never enough ::g ss47

Good advice Eric. The Deus handbook is excellent and there are innumerable videos available plus all the advice on here from users and still we get new owners asking how to switch the machine on. I am as guilty as anyone else, I have never read an instruction book on hoovers, dishwashers, washing machines and other domestic appliances and so have never really got round to using them over the years =)) Liam :;@

It could be a good rally!!! I see, you've obviously mistyped what was meant to read
"it will be a fantastic rally" as a great bunch of nearly 50 MDF members will be there! ::g ::g

However, it was the combination of a heavy heart, :( a pint of fosters and a rare moment of compassion, 8-| that I resisted the change, favouring instead, the issue of a fine of an indeterminate number of jellybeans payable immediately upon the finding of your first gold hoard during the event. ;)

Looking forward very much to seeing you all there ::g ss47
