OPEN CS Dig Sat 11th August

Post by GillEvans » Wed Aug 08, 2018 3:36 pm

NEW FARM NEW LAND

Hi all

Just to let you know we have a dig this weekend on a New Farm so New Land, we are on about 45 acres of wheat stubble to search in East Northants, the land has a Roman road running through also the farmer had an archaeological survey done on one of the fields available which produced evidence of a Saxon area that may have been a settlement.

If you are interested in coming along then please email me for full details at centralsearchers@ntlworld.com

Also you can check back here on Monday for details of a midweek dig next week on Wednesday 15th Aug

PS No green waste

How soft is wheat stubble? Is it easy to swing a coil in or do you have to hover above?

its easy enough to walk over but its only just been cut so I would imagine fairly stiff.

We have had two days of rain so that might help

First time on stubbIe so started off with a 5” coil in an effort to get down into the stubble, after two hours decided that it was not for me so went back to the car to swap it for something larger.
Then my detector was giving me grief (was not sure if it was the detector or user error) so I packed up and left at 2:30.

Then when I got home I tested it and it was defiantly the detector, then I remembered that Nel the manufacturer of the after market coils I use recommend doing a factory reset after swapping over coils (something I have never bothered with in the past and it has always been fine). So did the factory reset and hey presto it started working perfectly again,

If only I had thought of it there, anyway I won’t be making the same mistake again.
LP tomorrow in the pouring chubby rain.
