I have attended three of these events and they are well run and all for the village charities, lovely food, very friendly and plenty of land. The first one had some problems one one field with heavy clay when it rained, but thats Suffolk for you and the finds really came up.
I have now moved up to Lincolnshire but if I was back in Norfolk it would be a probable for me.

This is standard procedure at the vast bulk of rallies (even in rare cases where not stated it is assumed), it is simply that if everybody was detecting using the speakers on the detector it would be hard to tell which detector you were listening to and soon become very irritating (especially if every time you heard a bleep you checked and found it was not your detector!). So it is purely to make life easier for everybody ... also if near houses it avoids disturbing the locals.

I do not really like headsets, but accept that by using them you will hear the fainter sounds that might be missed other wise, so on my permissions in the middle of no where normally do no use them. But if on a beach I always will purely to avoid disturbing other people.

Yeah fair comment, I haven't been on a rally in about 5 years and did used to go to quite a lot and never took headphones to one. I just don't get on with them. I get what you are saying tho and shame this rally is a bit far from me as I reckon it would be really good. I used to go to the Ken Wilcox rallies but sadly I think he has passed away. he was a nice guy and used to know his stuff.
good luck to all that go :)
