Have a fifty acre field which is about to be ruined by green waste the farmer has agreed to let me get as many dectectorest on it as i can it is short notice but can organize a rally/dig all day tues the 13th of August if there is enough interest after that make it an open field for the forum until the dreaded day the waste gets spread I have had roman, hammered, and seal matrix off this field and only been out there a couple of days not promising there could be more but it is fifty acres and i have hardly scratched the surface the farmer supports the charity of the guide dogs for the blind so a donation of £10 was suggested for a day rally or as much as you can give more the merrier as this field is going to be lost to detectoring very soon
cheers Paint

Re: Cam field with green waste waiting to go on
Hold on, let me get this right - the farmer is knowingly going to contaminate his land with green waste?

Green waste sometimes contains bits of metal flat pack furniture fittings.Flat pack furniture is often made up MDF boarding which is full of carsiogenics(spelling).Contamitaing the land, into the food chain and who then eats this food, you and me.

Re: Cam field with green waste waiting to go on
The old "MDF" green waste has been banned. Primarily because of carcinogens in the glues.
Any "Green Waste must meet PAS100 Specifications for "non-degradable" content.
Lots of info here: http://www.qualitycompost.org.uk/upload/cqp_2012.pdf
If it doesn`t meet those criteria then it is "waste" and, if tipped in a field, can be reported to the Environment Agency the same as any other fly tipping.
There are also regulations that must be followed from storage "run off" through to incorporation time limits.

Good man Paint - great opportunity for locals and people willing to travel for the day.

I know that area fairly well, I used to court a lady from Dursley many years ago.

I do use the terms 'court' and 'lady' with poetic licence

Re: Cam field with green waste waiting to go on
Paint, please put me down for it.
A tenner for a fairly local midweek dig with the money going to such a good cause sounds good to me.
Regarding the comment "the farmer is knowingly going to contaminate his land with green waste?", as has been said the "modern" green waste is not as bad as some was in the past and has to meet set standards. However, unfortunately its does still contain a small amount of none compostable waste but this is due to us (the public) putting items in the green waste bins that we should not and some of it getting through the system, where a high percentage of it is removed. The genuine green waste does act as a fertiliser on the ground to its not at all surprising that a lot of farmers allow it to be spread on the land.
For those that do not know, Cam is about 13 miles south of GLoucester just off the A38, very easy to get to from the M5.
MODS, or Paint: For clarity can the the subect line be changed to "Cam, Gloucestershire, field ..." although I know the village I wondered what it meant and it was only when in response to being asked that Paint said "Cam, Gloucestershire" that I realised it was the village Cam.

Re: Cam Glouscestershire field with green waste waiting to go on
Here is the map with details of Tuesday dig.

The map is self explanatory and the two yellow pins indicate the the two fields available.
They are just south of Woodend Lane and the postcode for the lane is GL11 5HT.
Those attending please search out Paint (Ian) for making payments to a very worthwhile charity. He may not always be on the gate for late arrivals. Ian's a big lad and he usually wears his very colourful braces !
All funds going to a very worthwhile charity. And thank you Ian for sharing your site!
I am a fellow club member (Taynton Metal Detecting Club) and a few of us will be present. I look forward to perhaps meeting some of the MDFUK members whom I have 'chatted to' for many many years. Be nice to meet you all in person
No fields can ever promise anything but a few short visits by Ian have yielded a vesica seal matrix and a very nice Eddie penny. Well that's promising! And the fields are large totalling 50 acres. Barley stubble and recent rain will have softened it up very nicely. The Seamills to Gloucester Roman road ran very close to the A38 there.
7.30 arrival for an 8 am kickoff which will please you early birds !

What about us poor souls that like a lie in?. Thats a 6:30 departure for me

An a positive I have something on late afternoon so the early start will ensure I get plenty of detecting time in

Depending on which website you look at only a 3-10% chance of rain so should be OK on that front.
