Hi all, in Lincoln right now, may pop over to Sleaford this evening to see if I can find some land that Axon suggests. Been over in Cheshire today, new phone that I cannot understand - yet - nice to see such interest, I am sure we can work something out, will focus on it all tomorrow, Liam

Hi all, apologies for this late reply, working down in Eastbourne for this week and offline until now, Chiswick next week and then Torquay the week after.
Nothing sorted out yet re field permission, but will report back when I get an answer.
Looks like lots of rallies being organised all over the place by people who actually know what they are doing! So I suppose we need to decide the following;
Date that does not clash with another event.
Site that is fairly central to most folk and is likely to produce good finds. ( I did look at one place but rejected it as there were too many odd looking metal things poking out of the ground that might have caused a trip injury, green brooches, axes, plates, bars etc)
What facilities do we need on the day - toilets? refreshments? shelter? nearby pub?
What time do we start/finish?
It would be good if we brought along some finds to inspire us all and I certainly intend to pick up a few tips from everyone.
I have received the offer of a helping hand from another member here and so we will get something bashed out within a week as regards the possible locations. In the meantime we need to focus on the right date, so any thoughts there?
Good luck to all, Liam

Personal thoughts, I still think a good idea to hold our own bash, end of August beginning of October.
As long as the farmer land owner doesn't mind us using the edge for emergency water relief then all should be OK in that department.
A pub nearby would be good then we could always break for lunch/refreshments and shoot off there for an hour or so, and then back to the tecting.

I don't think we are going to find land bang in the middle of everyone, so may be we should take what we can to start with (as long as reasonable detecting ground), and then perhaps look for a second site.

For the right area/site I am quite willing to stay over in a travelodge/B&B.

I am also available if you want any help with anything Liam. OK to visit sites to try for permission or research or what ever.

I would be interested in this type of thing as I have not yet found any fields to go on and the beach can only give so much.
I can not go any further South (without getting very wet) so it will have to be North for me; it's just how far.
If it all goes ahead and I am available there would be room for a couple more in my car from the Christchurch area.

Well, i can roll a smoke, pour a drink and eat a sarny all while still detecting....
An hour is way to long away from the field...... =)) =))

So, who has access to a nice ploughed/rolled field that we can use for the day?
Is there a farmer who has a really interesting field that would be willing to accept a few bob for the privilege of having lots of footprints on his land?
I would love to meet up with other GMP users and chat about different settings and I am sure machines owners would also like to exchange info, maybe even bring along a few finds.
If it hammered down we could retreat to the pub.
Can we draw up a list of who is interested at least? There may be lots of people interested and watching in, but as they have not posted anything, we do not know that!
ANYONE interested, lets hear from you. If some people are a bit hesitant about posting their support, just send me a PM or email me and I will keep you updated that way, Liam

The land offers are Midlands and above so far. I am off tomorrow or Friday to have a look at a place in Sleaford, Lincs as it sounds quite good. The date is important as it has to work in with the ploughing cycle. Another place is in Cheshire. Thanks for the interest so far, Liam
the midlands has had some good finds big hoards ive done some fields in northamptonshire did not come away empty handed but my pockets were not bullging with coins i got 1 silver hamered and 1bronze roman in the same field but no hoards as yet but its a start lol B-) B-)

Hi Ian, I have sent a PM to someone who has offered the use of some land and will be chatting this through with him today hopefully. Within a few days I hope to be able to suggest a venue and date and we can then take it from there. It will not be a grand affair, just a meeting of forum members who want to get together for a days detecting ... and maybe a pint at the local, check in later, Liam

Liam

It's looking good! I've sent you a pm with some ideas. The main thing would be legal obligations if there is a crowd (not that we'd be having a rave). Nice drop of regular rain for a few days beforehand would certainly make life easier digging wise.
If we don't get land permission - how about a beach meet?
