Rally tomorrow

Post by chip » Sat Jan 20, 2018 8:32 pm

Anyone going to the lp rally tomorrow in oxford?
I have booked a place and have been looking forward to it as not having a permission rallies are my only chance to get out with the detector.

Trouble is according to bbc weather there is heavy rain forecast all day. If it was as not for the fact I have booked a place I might have otherwise taken a rain check as it’s over an hours drive each way.

So detecting in the rain, is it all part of the fun and games or am I better off staying in bed?

Yes, all part of the fun mate. I've been detecting out in it today, got soaked but had a couple of nice finds to make it all worthwhile. been detecting in a blizzard once but luckily it was just a passing half hour or so. been out in very heavy rain too but the best thing is being able to look back on those days and laugh at yourself. it's what good memories are made of mate ::g

LP club dig, not a rally, so not advertised, you only get informed if you subscribe to LP mailing list.

It’ll be a mud bath but i’m going anyway as it’s a grea5 permission where there have been excellent finds, or I wouldn’t bother.
I’ll probably do a few hours and finish early, depending on just how bad it is.

Deparat you need to be on Leisure Promotions’ email list to get to know about them. If you want details PM me. It’s fully booked but I suspect the turnout will be low.

It’s very hard going in the rain and even worse getting home with a boot full of wet and muddy gear , But it only takes one nice find to make it all worth while ::g

One nice find would make it worth while. My detecting history consists of 4hrs at central searchers, 4hrs at the beach and 2hrs on a small farm and I literally have not found one thing that has not gone in the bin. So I will be easily pleased at finding anything. ::g

Well I braved the cold, snow and rain and managed two and a half hours before my not so waterproof waterproofs saturated and I started to lose feeling in my toes.

Dug lots of buttons, some non descript and some RAF.
Image

I’m just glad to be getting a signal and then pleased to find what ever it is that my machine has found.

I managed 2 hours. Can’t be bothered to look through my finds bag but am 99.9% sure it won’t be worth the effort of emptying it :(

Took a hot shower to warm up again. Got freezing cold and muddy for sweet fanny adams. Although nice to catch up with Bob and the 2 kevins. And to work out investing in thermal waterproof trousers would be a good idea :E

Cumnor was COLD!!!

Post by Bargeman » Sun Jan 21, 2018 3:44 pm

So a few hardy souls made it to Cumnor, good to catch up with Cath (Oxgirl) and Bob (bob79) light snow on a bitter cold wind made for interesting digging, the snow gave way to rain, and that soon found its way through my waterproofs and into my boots, so cold and wet I left around two.

But I did manage to dig a few items with my CTX, nothing great, but it kept me interested...

So what did I find....

1 x lead figure
7 x RAF buttons
2 x old buttons both with shanks.
9 x four hole buttons
1 x large musket ball, fired.
1 x standard size musket ball, unfired.
1 x new poachers lead ball.
£2.22 1/2p decimal
2 x pre decimal coins of nothingness
1 x harness mount,
1 x brooch part
And a Pigeon ring GB99 P07063

Good fun, but looking forward to warmer weather ::g

Its a shame the weather was so bad for all there, waterproofs if 100% effective stopping it coming in make you sweat inside them, and expensive breathable ones........don't like using them for anything like detecting in mud.

A diving suit like this would be ideal for days like today

Good grief! That's 38 items dug up, not counting any scrap items that you might have found.

Are you in the olympic team?... you should be :D

:D that is a lot of digging.

On top of my 7 raf buttons I dug 4 four hole buttons, 4 pieces of scrap some wire and a piece of foil.

And everyone else after entering the field soon dispersed to the far corners of the field and after 2 1/2 hrs I think I managed to only make it about 250 yds from the entrance as my signals were coming in quick succession and I dug everything over ID 35.

I was the fat bloke head to toe in jack pike real tree camo if anyone saw me :D ::g

Bargeman that is a lot of digging in horrendous conditions, I 'd call it "power digging"!

Good call 'Easylife' - These are a great buy at less than £20 and they have zipped lower legs for easy 'donning'. Warm as toast - all day long! ::g ss47
