Sensible

Chances are high of ice on the road.

Then get battered by the wind.

Cant predict the weather months in advance. I like detecting in the snow on a nice day. But I am sure most will have had a miserable day today. And I predict that if it had go a ahead most would have lasted a couple of hours at most and the carpark would have been empty just after midday.

That is good news.

Did think of you the other day when everything around here was frozen solid and wondered if instead of "Bargeman" able to move when ever you wanted you were now "Stuck-in-ice-man" with the barge iced in.

Shame dig was called off but the only option in the circumstances - might have been wise to do so yesterday but still. Hopefully they can rearrage and recoup any losses from today and make a profit.

Six brave souls turned up for dig not knowing it was cancelled.

Did the dig go ahead with the weather? Any finds if it did?

For anyone who didn’t get the text today it’s been re-organised for 15th April. Same venue. Details on RWB & District Rotary Club Facebook page. Original tickets still valid for new date ::g

So Sunday I am off to the rescheduled rally, and the weather looks half decent this time, so is anybody else from this very forum going?

While we have decent weather booked for the weekend much of our land is still undetectable due to surface water, which is going to take weeks to dissipate. Hopefully it wont be Glastonbury conditions for you all ::g ::g ::g

I agree lots of land in the South West is still very wet.

Many farmers still have their cattle indoors regardless of the feeding costs.

Might be better to head for a beach session. :( Jerry.

Well it’ll be dry tomorrow so I’m sure that’ll help. A bit of wet ground won’t hurt us - if we can cope with snow and driving sleet then a sunny dry day will be an absolute pleasure, even if our boots are mud balls =))

Give it a couple of months and we will all be complaining the ground is too hard to dig and praying for rain. :))

Well the forecasted rain held off for most of the day, well organised rally with on paper looked to have potential for good finds.
A mixture of pasture and stubble fields, met up with Bargeman and Oxgirl36, Kevin and Cath, finds were not very prolific, not sure where the Romans from the neighbouring Villa were losing their loose change, but it wasn't there.

As Bob says the detecting was tough, and I have nothing to report on that front. but the staff from the local Rotary club, did us proud, free tea and coffee, and fantastic well cooked food ::g

And the farm and parking was well organised.

Thank you to all concerned. ::g

We travelled down from the Midlands for this one, after a local dig was cancelled. Brilliantly organised as everyone else has said, but sadly the only thing of interest I left with was a raffle prize! I couldn't help thinking that the land had already been detected, probably multiple times. It's hard to believe that four fields of over 100 acres (in this location) wouldn't yield anything.

Normally I'd simply pack up early and not make a point of it, but after checking in advance of travelling over 100 miles, I'd like to see rally organisers be a little more circumspect in the way they organise digs and advertise them. However, it was for a good cause, so happy they raised lots of money. It probably has put me off attending next year though.

I know the feeling. Been to 8 local Rotary charity rally's in the last 8 years and only had the one hammered coin and that was right outside the FLO's tent.
Still, it's all for a good cause. Will most likely be back for another crack at it next year.
