Garrett 150 v 250

Post by scouse » Fri Oct 24, 2014 4:06 pm

Hi all. Im very new and have been reading quite a bit before i take the plunge and get stuck in. It was suggested a good starter machine would be the Garrett 250. Buying new they're about 180 quid and a little pricey if it doesnt take off. The Garrett 150 is about 50 quid cheaper so if it doesn't take off the wife will moan less!

My question is.... should I buy the 150 and look to upgrade at a later date or just take the hit now as the 250 is far superior for just 50 quid extra?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello the ACE250 has the pinpointer function, the ACE150 does not.
You would be far better off opting for the ACE250, If you decide metal detecting is not for you or at some point you decide to upgrade, you will find the second hand prize is pretty good on the Garrett ace250 so your not really going to lose much ::g
Best of luck

Hi mate I would concur with mr Mrix , I've had the ace250 the pinpointer is a must when your starting out , I would suggest also watch the DVD that comes with it and also look in the metal detecting forum on here for the ace250 you won't be disappointed with your purchase , and I guarantee you will be hooked in a very short time ,good luck ::g

I think I was the one who suggested the 150. At the time I bought mine I did consider the 250 because of the pinpointing function, but in the end I bought the 150 and put the extra dosh aside in order to purchase a Garrett Propointer as well.
If I could have found a second hand 250 at the time for the price of the new 150 then I might well have gone down that route. [:)

Hey scouse, I started with the 150 and upgraded after about 3 weeks. Go for the 250 mate as it offers more and will last you longer than the 150. ::g
