New to detecting and think I may be detecting a little too long, I'm 6ft and have the pins in the second to bottom holes in the stem, just didn't feel right after 5 or 10 mins. It's a AT PRO. Any tips on setting height or distance to detect in front of you ?

First of all after submitting a post be sure to refresh your screen, easiest way is to hit the "MDF Home Page" button on the left. Do not use the back button as this will not display the new post .... which I suspect is the reason that you seem to be sometimes submitting multiple copies of the same item.

As for your question it does sound as if you probably have it set to long as the AT pro, like all the Garretts I have seen, is a well balanced machine and you should be able to swing it for a considerable time with no ill effects.

By having it to long it means that you are having to hold it out in front of you and therefore having to support the weight of it, rather than it being at a lower angle and a natural swing with the controlbox and arm rest above your hand being a natural counterbalance to the coil.

If you have the stem to short you either finish up stooping or having a very small swinging circle that is nearly hitting your shoes.

Everybody is different in how they walk, a 6' person that is very upright would need a longer stem than if they stooped slightly., and what they find comfortable for them.

I suggest you shorten the stem a hole at a time until you find what is comfortable for you, but when its right the machine will feel much lighter and counter balance rather than being supported.
