Detector Suggestions

Post by DetectorTom » Wed Apr 11, 2018 7:41 pm

I'm Tom, new to metal detecting and looking for any help in picking my first metal detector (After my cheap off brand mistake). I've got a flexible budget of around £400 and want to know which is best for my budget, if there is even one?

I live in cheshire and would mostly be detecting in farmers fields. Any information and opinions will be greatly appreciated as I have been looking for a little while and I don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Hi Tom,there are a number of brands within you budget...
But I have found that the Makro/Nokta rang of metal detectors are very respectful machines either for pastures or wet/dry beach...well worth taking a look.. anyway good luck on whatever you decide..and good hunting.. ::g

Welcome ::g The choice of detector will get you lots of different suggestions. This topic here might help you as a good starting point. Then you can research further in the brand specific forum areas.

Good luck :D

Plenty of good detectors out there. I prefer Minelab but my detecting partner likes the XP. We both find lots of hammies. I would advise buying second hand as you get more for your money.

If your happy to consider a 2nd hand unit. I would sincerely suggest one of the later models of the XP GMP (£300-400) or a Deus lite (£400-500). Both great machines and if you look there are people selling at these prices.

Kind Regards

Ju

Thank you for all the suggestions but after some more comparisons I think I'm going to go ahead with the makro racer 2 as I haven't seen one for that price yet, cheers Neil!

A lot of the shops would let you deposit £400 and pay another 250 over 12 months, so now your talking Makro Multi Kruzer territory. The latest machine from the same manufacturer. Maybe worth considering.
