Under £25 diy Sand scoop

Post by Norman_invader » Wed Feb 20, 2019 6:16 pm

I don't detect on the beach much but thought I'd have a go at making a sand scoop,I found the main bits on Amazon
Stainless IKEA cutlery drainer-£4
75mm X 300mm stainless steel sheet £4.50
Pressed steel broom handle bracket 3 pack £4.50
Pair of plastic hàndle grips £3.99

Wilko Pic n mix nuts,bolts & washer £2.50
1 can of Wilko clear lacquer spray £4

The remaining bits were laying about in the shed,
Old extendable 26mm paint roller pole
Mini angle grinder handle
15mm steel tube from a knackered fold up garden chair

I'm driving some friends to Skegness on Friday to visit relatives
So I may be forced to test it out while I wait to drive them home again

Nice project, but for inept DIY'ers like myself, an unfortunate impossibility :-)

That is a clever solution for a sand scoop especially considering some can cost around a £100, albeit they are made from a lot thicker material.

We are off to the beaches of Norfolk soon with my our three granddaughters and as I want them to get them involved with metal detecting, I have already bought them an ABS plastic trowel each and a pinpointer for each of them is on order.

So a round trip of 60 miles to IKEA and I bought two 18cm high cutlery drainers and a 13.5cm one.
The plan is to put a heavily painted cast iron handle on the larger ones so they would be similar in design to an old style pub pint mug and a 30cm aluminium tube covered in heat shrink tubing fixed at right angles onto the smaller one.
Many thanks for the inspiration and well done for the concept.
