Something I find very useful and weigh next to nothing are zip lock freezer bags. The larger sizes are ideal transparent rain covers for controls and batteries. In dry weather I usually detect in just a tee shirt or sweat shirt (no pockets) so I also use one for my mobile phone which I keep in my Garrett finds bag. Doesn't matter what junk I put in there the phone keeps clean and dry.

My thoughts are - BOTTOM -
Brains - look around the site, and see what it tells you
Observe - what others are finding and where
Time - take your time to detect - don't rush
Temperament - don't get upset if you find nothing in the first hour or so - patience is a virtue
Outgoing - talk to those around you, and enjoy the day (regardless of finds)
Mood - you're not at home doing those DIY jobs, or the Ironing, so just enjoy yourself!

My must bring will be a backpack I can carry my metal detector and spade etc, etc in. I bought a detector bag (one strap across the body) and on my first outing found that when going down stairs at the train station, the bottom of the bag hit every stair and caused the coil at the top of the bag to smack me in the head !.........also when I was detecting or digging, the bag (which had my crutches in ) would swing around and pull me sideways. I still had a great time lol. but next time I will have to MacGyver a backpack or learn to live with pre-detecting concussion, lolol ;-)x

When i started taking photos with a small compact camera, i took more photos because i could always carry the camera around, i became familiar with the software and learned quickly.

So when i started detecting i quickly came to the same conclusion (after hearing the only bit of advice that matters to us all, you have to walk over it to find it) that the more miles you walk the more chance you have of hitting gold.

So i always try to think about going lite.
Deus lite +WS4 is the basis of the kit, less than a kilo for the main event.
A small ripper SS trowel rather than a spade.
Even clothing/footwear has to be light weight and comfy.
Levi 511 stretch jeans (thank me later),

be comfy, go lite, walk further, stay longer

I always try to keep on moving and not to slow down, even if I find nothing other than trash. That's my secret for a higher find rate.

Wellie boots folks for those soggy fields!

I just bought a green utility belt for £12 from a well known sports superstore beginning with the letter D

It is made of nylon and plastic with no metal parts to avoid interference it has 4 pouches and 8 loop holes for spiral leads with hooks

Great piece of kit
