Just bought a sand scoop, probably going to have a custom shaft made when I suddenly thought about length. I'm 6'2" so any advice welcome. Thanks.

Think I would try something like a telescopic mop handle to start with .I know there not that strong but they are cheap and you will be able to find the best length to suit you before laying out no a purpose made one

As I’ve mentioned on other threads on here, why not try a pitchfork handle, long and strong.
Mine has given five and a half years of good service and seems to have many years left in it.
These can be purchased from farming supply shops.

Good luck Tony

How do you get it in the car ?

I'd have went for a 2 piece steel shaft if you wanted a long handle.
Or just a 1 piece d handle standard spade size

Just bought a 2.4m x 35mm pine shaft from b&q, can see the point about a long handle in the car, so if you're on mablethorpe beach Saturday and some blokes sawing away at a broom shaft it's me.

PinkFloyd,

I rest it across the rear footwell, it just fits. If I had a smaller car I would simply lower the back of one of the split seats, most cars have seats like these nowadays.

I find sandscoop will fit in front passenger footwell, with handle lent towards gap between seat and window there is plenty of room - obviously no good if you've got a friend!

I was eyeing those dowel rods up a few weekends ago, I'd be keen to hear how you get on with it!

Same reply as other post regarding shafts :For mine I used a COMPOSITUBE(Novagrip) shaft from Eric Hunter tools,i got 4 sand scoops all equipped with one of those they aren't cheap but wont break if used with a minimum of gentleness .

I didn't use the U Bolt supplied I drilled through and use bolt and nuts(2) through the shaft.

A larger shaft up to 45mm dia can be fitted to the Evolution Scoop by doing away with the u-bolts and using 2 x 8mm coach bolts fixed through the shaft. The Evolution Pro Scoop is Handmade in the UK

I ll try to do a review and share thoughts about the evolution scoop once I got more hours in it .....so far not bad.
