3 beeps on target

Post by chip » Thu Feb 08, 2018 1:52 pm

Hi, my new Nel thunder coil arrived today for my Garrett at pro.
So I fitted it and did a quick air test using a gold ring, silver half dollar and an old roman coin and it added an xtra inch and a half on the original coil. From 9-1/2 to 11 inches.

I then placed the items on the carpet and swung the detector over them checking for separation which I was happy with then did each item separately just to check the numbers and noticed that when I swung the coil close ,within one to one and a half inches of the target I got three beeps not one each swing, One when the first edge, then the center then the last edge of the coil went over the target. This changed to just the one beep when the center passed over the target once you swung it above two inches or so of the target.

Is this normal, can’t say I noticed this before with the original coil.

Thanks,
Forgot to add the new coil is larger at 10.5x14.5 inches compared to 8.5x11 of the original both double D.

You usually get double beeps when the target is near the surface or very shallow, this is the same with most detecters including other marks. ::g More so if the disk is larger than the normal disk.

It’s been a while since I’ve mucked about with signals in the hoose
But if my memory serves me correctly ..yes
Only at close quarters.
Hang on got the machine in car...surprise!
Waiting on the school bell.
I will experiment.

Yup
Once I got it out the car...machine sounds like a good techno rave inside the motor
Triple beep on a flat coin side to side at about 2 inches...
Will conduct more scientific analysis once back at the lab...garden
Is my coil ill?

This usually happens on shallow or surface targets as the larger coil detects the target twice or three times in your case, try this on a deeper target and it will probably only beep once. Most detecters including other marks do this with larger coils and is used as an indicater, r;[ double beep means surface or shallow target.. all is normal and working fine :))

Interesting I have only ever got two beeps one on each edge of the coil on shallow rings or coins on edge.

Must be slight differences between coils and machine manufacturers.
