Best settings for Hoard?

Post by Moxey » Wed Dec 26, 2018 9:32 am

Hi all. I would like to know your recommendations for settings to find the rest of a Roman Hoard of bronze coins. The site is on cultivated ground. I'm thinking Deep program and dig all signals. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Not being familiar with your machine and its settings and programs, but the best general advice is all metal, zero discrimination and dig everything
Even digging rubbish targets "may" unmask a coin target, so all targets need to be removed and the ground checked from different angles

BA has given some sound advice.

Dig everything on a area like your talking about.

I watch with interest. ::g Jerry.

The best advice has been given. I can only add that very wet conditions will help too ::g

A lot of roman coins can very easily sound like iron so be prepared for that ::g

Deep and dig all signals is a good start ::g

Worth putting some lines down and then gridding the area at 90 degrees to the first search angle, then if you have time do the same in Hot, which may reveal more once other targets have been removed.

Good luck and looking forward to an update ::g

Then go over the area in gold program to find some more targets. Or perhaps a PI detector if available. ::g

hello, all as above but if it had been ploughed many times it might be further away from the area if you know which way the field was worked plot out map of the furrows, it has been know for a pot top to get broken and some coins scattered leaving the rest intact, and agree on all metal mode, good luck

What do you know that we don’t? Have you already found an area of interest? If so can we have a sneaky peak? 😀

January 2019 edition of Treasure Hunting has an article by Gary Blackwell on pages 79-81 on getting the last of the treasure, including deep masses. He suggests lower frequencies. Specifically the ‘Goldfield’ programme and, importantly, manual ground balance. Then he suggests adapting this programme to:

Sensitivity 95
Frequency 4 or 7 kHz
Reactivity 2.5
Disc IAR 0
Threshold 2
Audio response 3

If you have a new X35 coil add signal boost - although this will eat your battery so not for a long days detecting :D

Good luck ::g

Just ran with the Deep program on my Deus. Five more coins found in one hour. Total of 18 so far. Mainly Sesterius. Going back Saturday to continue the search. I appreciate all the ideas and advice given.

Good work mate, nice that you're still picking them out one by one! I may have to try Deep mode on some hot spots sometime.
