This question has probably been asked many times,as a beginner detectorist,I have rightly or wrongly narrowed my search for a new machine to the Xp range,My question is would you reccomend the more basic 150 or the more complex models? I love to fiddle so I'm guessing I would quickly tire of a simple plug n play machine, but would ideally like to be able to use the machine on both fields and beach, any plus or minus points to each model? So many questions but hard to put them all in here, any experienced members feel free to advise.

So, as its at least not one brand Vs another ... I have had two GMP's before I bought the Deus around 7 years ago, soon after they came out. The GMP was I believe the next in progression from the ADX150 and worked pretty much the same. I really enjoyed the GMP and I still have one as a back up. However, the GMP is always left on the bench and rarely gets a run out, the Deus performing so well. The GMP became a little heavy after 3 hours but the Deus floats almost. The Deus is a "switch on and go" machine but is also a very complex machine that will be appreciated by those who understand the way detectors operate. Its functionality is almost endless and there are countless programs that have been developed to suit all types of conditions and targets. I opt for GMP (same as the old machine!_18 ghz (same as GMP) tracking GB and I still have the 9 ins coil. If choosing the Deus, get the control box as well as it adds so much versatility.
So, I would certainly opt for the Deus, though ANY good machine will become a firm favourite if used correctly and Lady Luck hovers overhead. Good luck in any case, I am sure there will be a flood of comparison posts to follow. Liam

So i then got the Goldmax Power and adjusted the settings to suit the ground and of course myself, but then the Deus came out, and now i can adjust settings to my hearts content, although i have just about settled on my settings these days.
Plus the added advantage of being wireless and weighing so little, really helped me, as i was always getting myself tangled up with the headphone lead.
So if you are certain that it is XP you want, then i would get the Deus, but if you can, try and get to try it in hand, and you will see for yourself the instant benefit of this machine.
Good luck and HH
Now paired with the Equinox 800

And I would echo the advice to either pick up the phone to one of the specialist suppliers or, ideally, go and see one and have a play with the options.
