Have Chefphones Closed?

Post by f8met » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:45 pm

I notice the Chefphones website is now not working, have they stopped producing? I have a set for my Deus which I have had for a few years now and I was looking to maybe get a new pair. Gray ghosts are really expensive compared to the Chefphones.

I’m sorry to tell you I’m fairly sure he died.
The business was sold shortly after his last operation and continued for a while.
I know he was very ill and had extensive surgery then just disappeared. Have tried several times through connections to find out more but no one seems to know.

I hope that you are wrong because if so he was such a great guy and very knowledgeable and nice to talk to on digs, I have asked many times how he is but seems no one knew, if he is not with us now then it is a very sad loss. :(

Hi Geoff. Yes I agree. I felt it more because I looked on him as my mentor.
Last message I had from him was March 2016. I’ve asked several, who I knew were ‘closer’ to him but even they had no news.
I know he didn’t want peeps fussing about him but I find it very strange that there’s been no news at all.

I do know he was quite poorly some time back, but then heard nothing more
Will let you know.

I do like my chefphones. The wires have come loose a couple of times but I have patched them up and they still work. One field fix involved taping on the wire which kept me going all day. I would like to get another pair.

Alternatives are the Quest or I have just seen the BJ headphones in the MDF shop. Anyone had any experiences with these?

Had my chefphones now for 5 years or so and love 'em and would definitely have had another pair but sadly that sounds unlikely now. Here's hoping that the guy is still with us. :(

If the sad news is true then perhaps he could be added to the departed detectorists hall of fame

I thought the same but wouldn’t suggest it till at least one person could confirm. Plus I didn’t know if any one on the Forum knew him. I should have known better. Wait and see if Blackadder can find out anything.

No one would be more delighted to hear good newsthan me. Daft as it sounds, just before Xmas I sent him an email. It didn’t come back !!? After all this time, if the worst had happened, I’d expect the account to be closed.

I have contacted a few people locally and it does appear to be a grey area with whats happened
He did go into hospital a couple of years ago and his family took over the running of his business
But even my 2 contacts have heard nothing since and havent seen him either
One did say he had a lot to do with the forum detecting wales, so maybe one of you would like to contact admin there to see if they know anything
I'm going to lock this one off now, but will update it should any info come to light
It has been said he was a private man
Let me know if anyone gets an update
