Anyone know this projectile/bullet?

Post by Saki » Sun Dec 10, 2017 5:55 pm

Hi guys, found with ace 400 I with nel thunder. Only about 4inch down. Near an old estate house in a field rarely used for anything part from grazing the past 200 years or so. This would have been found on the lawn. It measures 10mm on the base and 14.5mm from base to tip

Pistol/revolver bullet, probably for a .38 (common) or .40 calibre weapon. Beyond that, theres a whole world of possible weapons it could have been for.

Apart from the common 'standard' military bullets, most are actually quite hard to identify a weapon for, unlike cartridge cases which can often be narrowed down to just a couple of possible weapons.

Thank you For Your help Martin B.
I found a shell from a .500 in a different field, but about 400 metres from this find . Unfired but empty. The landlord would have been in the boar war. And was a Lord.

At 10mm, it would make it something like a .41 Rimfire Short, or something similar and would date to anywhere from the 1860s to the early 20th century. ::g
