WW2 Treasure Hunters

Post by RRPG » Mon Nov 06, 2017 8:34 pm

Hi All

Episode 5 tonight on the History Channel at 9pm. Or 10pm if you go to +1.

RAF Horham.....95th bomb group. The highest decorated USAAF group in WW2 with THREE distinguished unit citations.

I would value your opinions on the show :)

Hi Stephen, I am on a late shift today so watched Ep 5 over breakfast. You are doing a great job
finding and showing all the physical history. So far they have all been good I think with last weeks Ep 4 the top one for me so far as I have detected a POW camp site and found that remaining evidence like your group did. keep up the good work mate ::g

What a fantastic series so far - each episode has got better and better. There is a real determination on personal items found being traced and returned to the families of the original owners which is really heartwarming to see. I love the enthusiasm of it all and Suggs is the perfect celebrity addition - they both bounce of each other really well presenting and explaining things. I didn’t think I would like this series as the finds/detecting was too ‘modern’ for my historical interests but I was wrong. I

I hope they do another series but would love to see the next series take place and filmed in Germany. I would also like to see the team focus on other wars and sites as well - a special on Rourke’s drift would be amazing!

Great job, keep those episodes coming! ::g

Just watched, very good.
Right amount of old footage and interviews with people who were there, to give context to the detecting finds.
Suggs is perfect as co-presenter, enthusiastic and respectful.
Rourkes Drift, would be fantastic and get a massive audience but there is no way you would get permission :( .
Brilliant series, learned so much.
Cheers, ::g

Don't miss tonight's episode of 'WW2 Treasure Hunters' !! (UK, History Channel, 9pm Monday).

This week we are in a patch of woodland used by troops just prior to embarkation for D-Day. A fabulous episode with an interview with a D-Day veteran, access to the original D-Day maps at Southwick House, and some remarkable relics recovered during filming.

I look forward to tonights episode. It's good to see our own British history from WW2 and the series paints a picture of the time very nicely. The episode about the American bombers was sobering when you considered the odds of those boys surviving.

I live pretty close to an American WW2 cemetery. Just standing there and looking at all the names on the wall turns me numb. These programmes do a lot more than just show us interesting finds, they help us remember the ultimate sacrifices that were made.

Thank you Mud Max. That is exactly what we were aiming for when making the series. So many people think of battles on distant shores......very few actually think of the men who were based in the UK, risking their lives for our freedom.

Thanks Wan.

It's done for televisual effect though, (the trip to Germany), as I knew exactly what they meant! Great to be able to get a real expert on screen though. :)
