.303 Head stamp

Post by Ferrous1 » Wed May 09, 2018 10:30 pm

Recovered a .303 blank on pasture 6" down with Deus Lite, 11" coil, standard fast programme. The head stamp reads:
C VI GB
I assume its a black cordite blank, but any idea of the age would be good? There is definitely no date after the 'GB'. Identical to the one in this picture.Thanks for looking :)

GB Greenwood and Batley, Leeds, UNITED KINGDOM
VI Mark 6 introduced 1904
C Cordite

From 1907 instead of "C" the last two digits of the manufacturing year were added

So yours is 1904-1907

Photo is of a blank round

Does the one you found have the ‘ring’ crimp below the rosette crimps, like the one in the picture? If so, that’s quite an uncommon .303!

Either of the first two on this list. https://sites.google.com/site/britmilam ... i-to-l10a1

Great find! ::g
