Sea mine Partifact Or SOE trip wire detonator??

Post by Saki » Fri Aug 10, 2018 8:35 pm

Hopefully someone may be able to assist with an ID on this.
Approx 2.5inch. Brass, Threaded. With "DR56 MK3" also a hole in the end and tapered on the other
Found with 400i on very exposed cliff head (with lots of sea debris) approx 10 inch in peaty, soil
I do know of a few sea mines hitting here (3 that I know of, from local knowledge and archives).

Thanks for that Easylife ::g So not live so? My one seems to have been used
When I initially found it, by chance the landowner was not far off. So placed it atop a rock and headed over to him to ask his opinion. We both thought possibly from the sea mine.I said I would research before alarming anyone. And we agreed to leave it in a "safe" place, on private ground, away from any public access.
So, will not now have to report this. And may retirve it in the morning and get proper measurements etc.
I wonder was an SOE operative in training out here. On this little spit of land overlooking the atlantic.
Strangest thing I've found :))

service igniter, safety fuze, percussion Mk III.

Would seem to be inert but not real way of telling without taking it apart. Even then, all it has inside is a small percussion cap so nothing to worry about and legal to possess. Give it a good scrub !
