To be on the safe side it would be best to leave it where it is, mark the spot, and contact the landowner and bomb disposal.
Please take the utmost care.

No way of knowing without the pictures. Best to mark anything you're suspicious of, so it can be retrieved later.

Without a picture it is impossible to give you any other advice than, leave it alone and call the authorities. Sorry.....but that is the only way it can be!

You are describing a fuze, but as said without pictures impossible to say what state it is in.

For peace of our minds, it would be nice to know whether this all ended safely.

Just found something that looks like a bomb. It's not easy typing while your jumping up and down on something. Nothing happening so I

Hi guys, sorry, home now so can upload a picture.

Reason I thought it is possibly the safe bit is because I always enjoy looking at RRPG's polished up ones in his post lol, and always wanted one myself :).

Appears to be a No.199 fuze for a 3.7 inch gun.
Already gone pop, so perfectly safe and free to a good home ::g

Would a good scrubbing with wire wool be the best method to clean this, in water with soap?. Or any other methods before or after?.

hI Stejens,
I have posted these piks of mine a few times, mine cleaned up with a low velocity sand blaster and silica sand, you have got lucky and have a really good example there. You may not have access to a sand blaster so soaking in soapy water for a few days would start the cleaning process off and wire wool (stainless steel) would do nicely... HH...johnnn

Personally, I always clean my finds with soapy water, and a damn good scrub with a brush (Nylon bristles). Steel wire would probably wreak havoc with the deteriorating Zinc nose cone, but either way is just as good ::g
