Pin pointer quality and price

Post by paulb2180 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:23 pm

I have a Garrett pin-pointer which is great. A friend borrowed it to find some man hole covers in his gravel carpark, found them easily and has asked if I can get one for him. The trouble is, as he is only going to use it infrequently, £100+ seems a chunk of cash and I have seen some similar looking pointers on-line for a much lower price.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to lower priced options? If so has anyone compared the performance at each end the price scale.

Thanks in advance ::g

If he's looking for large easy shallow targets like manhole covers, he would be better off with the 'wand' type security scanners. There's some very cheap ones listed on "Echo Bay".

The GP Pointer is pretty good, for me at least, although some people have had a bad time with them. About £29, money well spent.
My granddad lived to be 95, and he attributed his long life to eating a spoonful of gunpowder every day.

When he died he left 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a 30 foot crater at the crematorium.

My advice would be to avoid the cheaper Exact copies that appear on the internet. If your mate is going to get a household name pointer, best get it from a regular dealer, or live with the consequences of a copy.

There are lots of cheap pointers that will do the job well for around £30. This topic might help...

Instead of a pin pointer with limited depth how about a ......Cheapo detector from fleeee bay the ones that look like a Garrett. Could come in useful for the deeper buried stop cock / sewer covers. Never know u might find a few ££££ in the gravel too ::g
