Pin pointer ?

Im about to buy an XP DEUS in the next few days , do i need to buy a Pin Pointer as well ?

I don't go out detecting without my Pro Pointer it's not a Garrett but a cheaper copy saves loads of time when digging

Wow, if the Deus is your first detector, well done, and perhaps a bit of a steep learning curve. Most of us start on Garrets or similar, but your budget is obviously OK. I've used the GP pointer for nearly two years now ( a cheaper Garrett copy) and it's been fantastic. However, if you have the budget, you buy what you think is appropriate. All I would advise in the detecting world is don't think you can run before you can walk. Good Hunting.

If you have the xp I would seriously consider the MI-6 pointer. I upgraded from the Garrett and it was well worth the extra money. It's a far superior pointer in my opinion (no false signals) and will connect to the headphones of your machine.

The Deus is pretty accurate at pinpointing, but as you will soon discover - you can dig out the target and spend ages sifting through the clod / soil and not see what it is you've dug - a pinpointer will save a lot of wasted time.

Definitely, I would struggle without one, I know a few guy's that grab handfuls of earth and pass over the coil, but the pinpointer is better IMO

I've got to admit that when I started detecting a year ago I really didn't see the need for a pinpointer. But after having owned one for the last month or so I wouldn't be without it. Most of my finds are deep in heavy clay and flint so I use mine for finding the target in the hole so I can carefully extract it with a knife.

Another good reason for a pinpointer, depending on what pinpointer you have, I was using the whites trx (excellent depth) until it gave up the ghost and now the garret carrot (not quite as deep), when I get a target I use the pinpointer to scan the area before digging, it's amazing how many targets the pointer can pick up, no big holes, neat extraction and on to the next

I recently bought the Deus, and foolishly didn't take the opportunity of adding the MI6 pinpointer to my order for £113 (after the 10% discount)... Doh

I thought I'd stick with the el-cheapo GP-pointer, tricked with a penny taped to the side. It serves a purpose, but does struggle with depth and smaller / thinner finds (great on iron though)

Christmas soon, so I 'may' get one, I've been dropping enough hints at home recently.... will probably still get socks and toiletries

I still don't get why people think depth is a major factor on pin pointers. It is more for finding items in the side or bottom of holes and the tiny bits out of the hole or the targets in the sticky stuff. Though there is a difference between and inch and having to touch the items like some of the early cheap pointers.

I would not be without my pointer although the majority of the time I wave the clod over the coil if I get it out of the hole first time. If I don't then it is useful for finding which side of the hole it is in or if it is still in the bottom.

Good luck with the Deus and hopefully you will have a good permission to learn it on.

Exactly I always have the sensitivity set to low which makes it far easier to locate targets quickly.

It is like most things really: you can still get by without one, but once you have one you wouldn't want to be without it. Cordless headphones also fall into that category... I definitely wouldn't want to be without either now.

If you can afford it then the Mi6 pinpointer is absolutely worth having. Unlike the Mi4 it connects wirelessly to your headphones. They are robust, rechargeable and waterproof and personally i wouldn't buy another type as a Deus owner!

My Garrett carrot is faultless but would equally have the MI6. Pinpointers really come into their own on deeper targets which may have been thrown off by nearby iron. They tell you exactly where in the sidewall the target is which makes for a speedy recovery rather than digging a massive crater.

I would invest in a carrot or definitely a waterproof pin pointer because my last standard pro pointer suffered from moisture inside.
They are great for finding those 1/4 cuts which many machines have left behind in the past.

I use a deus lite and it has been fantastic on Gary's hot programme.
I started with an old laser power.
The deus is lightweight and telescopic and for me it's all in the ear and I can now judge depth and what kind of metal is underneath the coil a lot of the time.

Had a Garret Pro II and then moved to the MI-6 when I started using a Deus. Love the fact that it interfaces with both the remote and headphones. Nice and easy to adjust sensitivity, waterproof and rechargeable - what's not to like!
