Starter Pointer

Post by Daysleeper » Fri Feb 15, 2019 9:40 pm

Evening All

Well, I Plan on ordering my first MD over the weekend, 400i. In time I would like to purchase a decent pointer, but this could be a while. So, in the meantime, I may purchase a "cheap" one. Can anyone recommend one?

Many thanks in advance :D

I could only recommend the Garrett (carrot) AT Pro-pointer, not cheap though. ::g

The GP pointer seems to get mixed reviews, I've had one for about a year and it's fine, other people have been less than impressed with it. At the price you can't really argue though.
My granddad lived to be 95, and he attributed his long life to eating a spoonful of gunpowder every day.

When he died he left 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a 30 foot crater at the crematorium.

I purchased a "back up" GP pointed directly from China, it was dire, detection range on a 1988 (copper) 1p was about an inch, things like airgun pellets were not detectable, I complained and they sent me another one FOC! Slightly better this one, it will detect the 1p at 2.5 inches and if you touch an airgun pellet it will give a signal. Luckily I also have a Deteknix and Makro as first choice.

Hi. On the recommendation of a very experienced detectorist, I went for a Nokta pointer. Again, not cheap, but after the best part of a year, its still performing as on day one, and ultra reliable.

Only my opinion however. (I am aware that a lot of people use cheaper pointers and had no problems.)

So many really good pinpointers around at the moment far more than there has every been before so spoilt for choice, obviously budget will play a part.
Here is a list of Pinpointers we have listed at the MDFShop https://www.metaldetectingauction.com/s ... inpointers

Best of luck in whatever you decide ::g

I've had a gp pointer for a while now and it's been much better than I thought it would be. It's perfect for the meantime while I save for one a little more expensive.

Thank you for the replies and advice. This seems to be a "You get what you pay for" kind if thing. I've seen those from China and was tempted due to the cost, but would probably end up launching it for future detectorists to find, and shake their heads in disbelief.

I'll take a look at those recommended and weigh up my options.

Many thanks once again.
