The original garret pro pointer will not find those small 22 low volume cartridge cases from Victorian fairs, unless it's actually touching the tipmrix wrote: Mon Dec 23, 2024 5:29 pm Hi Neil, I have owned both the Garrett and various Nokta and Makro pointers over the years and all have been very goodI am wondering if your dads pointers was set at a high enough sensitivity level compared to your Garrett in that specific in hole test ? settings are obviously for different situations like pinpointing in the dug out spoil whereby a lower setting can sometimes be more ideal or within the hole whereby sensitivity would be more suited being a little higher etc.
It all depends on mass and shape
Thanks for everyone's feedback!
I've ended up purchasing a Dr Otek MT6pro pinpointer. It's a lot more sensitive than my budget pinpointer and after a 2 hour session the other night I'm impressed.
Unfortunately I'm not reassured by expensive gear. Often my expectations of such equipment exceeds reality. My other hobby being astrophotography which can result in a lot of money being spent!
If I'm gonna spend big it's going to be on a better detector but I don't see that happening for a while yet.

Just an update on the Dr Otek pinpointer. Absolutely love it! Super sensitive with a positive buzz. Great value for money. I'm locating targets much quicker in the holes.
